17th-ranked Horned Frogs defeat No. 19 West Virginia 59-50
FORT WORTH – TCU and West Virginia found themselves on a collision course for control of the Big 12 title race on Sunday night inside Schollmaier Arena.
But common goals cannot be shared, and the 17th-ranked Horned Frogs swiped first place in the conference standings from No. 19 West Virginia in a 59-50 win.
Down six at the break, TCU (23-4, 11-3 Big 12) blitzed the Mountaineers with a 20-2 run over the first 5:12 of the second half. The Horned Frogs fell behind 22-11 with just under eight minutes to go before halftime but outscored West Virginia by points the rest of the way. TCU shot 68 percent from the field (15-22) in the second half while limiting West Virginia to 50 points – its lowest scoring output of the season – for the second time in as many meetings in 2025-26.
The Horned Frogs assumed a half-game lead over West Virginia (21-6, 11-4 Big 12) in the conference standings. TCU swept the season series with the Mountaineers and holds the tiebreaker over third place Baylor (22-5, 11-3 Big 12), whom the Frogs host in their regular season finale on March 1.
Sunday's victory was also TCU's NCAA-leading 40th consecutive home win. Fittingly, the Horned Frogs achieved the milestone number against the last team it lost to inside Schollmaier Arena. West Virginia defeated a depleted TCU team 77-52 on Feb. 13, 2024. Since that night, TCU has competed to a 63-11 combined overall record and 31-6 mark in league play.
Four Horned Frogs scored in double figures as TCU erased its early 11-point deficit.
Clara Silva tallied 14 points, a game-high eight rebounds and two blocks.
Marta Suarez matched Silva with 14 points – 12 of which came in the second half.
Olivia Miles steadied TCU's offense against the Mountaineers' matchup zone, finishing with 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
Taylor Bigby joined the trio in double digits with 10 points while Donovyn Hunter added nine.
TCU's decisive run began with eight unanswered points across its first three possessions out of the locker room. Suarez and Hunter tied the game at 28-28 with back-to-back 3-pointers. West Virginia briefly leveled the game at 30-all, only for TCU to counter with a 12-0 run capped off by two more deep balls – this time from Hunter and Bigby – and a steal and score by Miles.
Silva buried a fadeaway in the paint as TCU held a 54-47 edge with under 4:00 to play, before Miles delivered the dagger via a driving layup on the Horned Frogs' next trip down.
The 6-7 Silva was TCU's lone bright spot in the first half. She was responsible for 10 of the Horned Frogs' 22 points and six of 11 to start the game.
West Virginia then connected four times from distance bridged a 16-0 run between the first and second quarters to double up the Frogs.
TCU clamped down on the Mountaineers the rest of the way, allowing just nine field goals total and only two makes from behind the arc.
The Power Conference leader in field goal percentage defense, TCU held West Virginia to a 34 percent clip (18-53) from the floor. West Virginia became the 12th opponent TCU has limited to 50 points or less.
After throwing the ball away a season-high 24 times in Morgantown in January, TCU finished with a 1.5 assist-to-turnover ratio, dishing out 15 dimes against 10 giveaways.
West Virginia's Gia Cooke led all scorers with 18 points.
