Three individuals look to book their spot in NCAA Championships
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – A handful of individuals from the TCU women's tennis team are set to travel to College Station to compete at ITA Sectionals, running from Nov. 6-9.
At ITA Sectionals, the pairing of Yu-Chin Tsai and Victoria Gomez O'Hayon will get things started for the Horned Frogs as they will play against Tess Bucher and Alice Xu of Illinois at 9 a.m. Tsai and Gomez O'Hayon recently made it to the doubles final of the ITA Regional Championships in Fort Worth, falling one match short of qualifying for the NCAA Individual Championships.
Raquel Caballero Chica will face off against No. 93 Na Dong of Baylor at 10:30 a.m. in singles action, and Tsai will follow as she will take on No. 26 Lily Jones from Michigan at Noon. Caballero Chica won the 3-4 playoff in the singles main draw bracket at ITA Regionals.
This tournament will feature 32 singles individuals and 16 doubles draws. Six singles players (semifinalists and two quarterfinalist playoff winners) and three doubles teams (champion, finalist, and third place) will qualify for the NCAA Individual Championships through ITA Sectionals.
Last year, Jade Otway and Isabel Pascual were able to earn a spot as a doubles pairing at the NCAA Individual Championships, marking TCU's first appearance at the tournament in five years.
The draws and results from the tournament can be found here.
