COLLEGE STATION, Texas – No. 16 TCU defeated its second ranked opponent of the season in No. 21 Texas A&M, 2-1, on Thursday night at Ellis Field. Camryn Lancaster scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute to cap the come-from-behind win.
The Rundown
The contest was tied 1-1 the entirety of the second half until Lancaster's goal. TCU intercepted the ball from A&M outside of the box and Lancaster shot it just right of the goalkeeper to put the Frogs in front.
In the first half, Lauren Kellett made two key saves to keep the Aggies off the board early. In the 16th minute, she made a leaping save to knock the ball high over the net.
Despite the stellar goalkeeping from Kellett, A&M scored first on a free kick in the 25th minute.
The Frogs struck for the equalizer in the 40th minute. Lauren Memoly delivered a beautiful feed to Tyler Isgrig down field, who slipped her defenders and snuck the ball past the goalkeeper to tie the game.
The second half was a back-and-forth battle until Lancaster's goal. Kellett continued to diminish scoring opportunities for the Aggies, recording two important saves in the 56th and 58th minutes.
Kellett finished the contest tying her season-high in saves (5).
Stat of the Game
4:04 – Camryn Lancaster scored the game-winning goal with less than five minutes remaining in the contest. TCU has come from behind twice this season and scored in the final minutes, doing so first against Minnesota (Aug. 21).
Quote of the Game
Head Coach Eric Bell
On tonight's game
"I think they took it to us in the first half before we scored as the half ended for the equalizer. It was back-and-forth in the second half. They had their moments and we had our moments. Thankfully Cam was able to put it away for us.
On Olivia Hasler's game play
"She was up and down the flank and she intercepted a bunch of passes. She did a really good job at protecting space in front of the back line and we're thankful we have her as a left back because she's doing a really good job for us."
