TCU obtains tie versus Mountaineers
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – In the regular season road finale, the TCU women's soccer team posted a 0-0 draw against West Virginia on Friday night at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
The Horned Frogs (5-9-2, 2-7-1) provided a steady mix of possession-filled soccer with attacking spurts but were unfortunately unable to scratch a goal across in the 90 minutes of action.
On the defensive side of the ball, goalkeeper Eliza Collings made her collegiate debut today and provided a clean-sheet performance with one clutch save and excellent distribution to the back line.
THE RUNDOWN
The opening of both halves would start and settle into similar fashions, as West Virginia would secure a burst of momentum in the opening minutes that would quickly be turned around by the Frogs and used to their advantage.
In the first half, the Frogs would see five shots from Mountaineer players in the first 12 minutes of play then quickly turn around and add five shots of their own in the next six minutes.
As the game settled in more, TCU out possessed West Virginia and had a passing attack that spread the wealth to players all around the field and advanced the ball up the field with help from a cohort from Frogs.
The second half featured less shots from both teams overall but faced a similar tone as the first 45 minutes. TCU would create a handful of opportunities, including a right-footed shot by Emma Yolinsky inside the box in the 66th minute that was saved by the Mountaineer goalkeeper, but no scoring was had from either side.
With just over three minutes remaining in the match, the Mountaineers would find themselves with their best opportunity of the game, as a breakaway chance was secured for a West Virginia attacker who was one-on-one with Collings. The freshman goalkeeper stood tall and earned her only save of the match in the biggest moment.
That stop would keep the 0-0 score steady and secure the draw for the Frogs over the Mountaineers, who were ranked inside the top eight in conference heading into tonight's matchup.
