FROG FOCUS
TCU returns to non-conference play after posting an 8-5 record in out-of-conference duals earlier this season. Seven of those eight wins have come without surrendering a point, the most in a single season since 2018, when TCU held its opponents scoreless in nine matches.
The Horned Frogs have been making strides in their doubles play, winning two of the last four doubles points, including a doubles point against No. 3 Oklahoma. TCU was just the third team to take a doubles point from the Sooners this season, joining Furman and Texas.
The doubles success has been fueled by the Spanish duo of Mercedes Aristegui and Isabel Pascual. The TCU No. 2 pairing has won three matches in a row, including their first ranked win this season, when they took down OU's No. 50 Sleeth/Pisareva, last Friday.
Pascual is tied for the team lead in overall victories this season, with freshman Jade Otway. They have both delivered 16 wins this year, with Otway pacing the team with nine singles wins and Pascual leading with 10 doubles victories. Pascual is 10-5 this season in doubles play in just her second season of collegiate action. Otway's nine singles wins is tied with senior Alisa Soloveva, who has delivered a team-best 9-7 record in singles matches.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Prairie View A&M enters the weekend after securing the No. 3 seed in the SWAC. The Panthers are 7-17 this season with a 7-2 record in conference play. They have dropped their last three matches to Lamar (twice) and UTSA. This will be just the second meeting between the two schools, with TCU winning the only previous match, 6-0, back in 2018.
SMU was awarded the No. 43 spot in the latest ITA rankings with an 11-7 record. The Mustangs are 4-0 in AAC play this year with a match against No. 19 UCF coming up on Friday before the match against the Frogs. This will be the 50th meeting between TCU and SMU. The Horned Frogs lead the series, 30-19, and are looking to get back into the win column after SMU snapped a six-match TCU winning streak in the last meeting, last season, in Fort Worth. TCU is 9-8 in matches at SMU and have won the last two matches in Dallas, dating back to 2013.
