The Horned Frogs Suffer Reverse Sweep to Oklahoma
FORT WORTH – TCU Volleyball (6-7, 0-3) couldn't take advantage of a 2-0 set lead, falling in five sets (26-24, 25-23, 18-25, 23-25, 13-15) to Oklahoma (8-8, 2-3) on Friday afternoon inside Schollmaier Arena. Dani Dennison made 22 digs, including nine in the fifth set. She is now two digs away from tying the program record for the most career digs.
"Our team came out super solid this morning in our prep," head coach Jill Kramer said. "The first two sets were really close and we stepped up and made the big plays at the end of sets, which was great to see. There was a big momentum shift in the third that we didn't grab back. We needed to be a lot more aggressive in those last three sets with some purpose in our attack. We took some really tough swings but we started getting blocked a lot. I was happy to see us battle in the fifth but like we talked about in the locker room, every team in our league is great and we need to be tougher in the end."

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1 (TCU, 26-24): Neither team led by more than three points in a tightly contested opening set. The Sooners made a 5-0 run to take a 13-11 advantage in the early stages but strong defence from the Frogs led by Raiola and Bramschreiber in the back row helped TCU stay in the fight through the middle portions of play. The Horned Frogs played better as the match moved ahead and took the lead, 24-23, off a Raiola kill, TCU's first lead in the match since 11-10. OU tied the score 24-24, the 15th tie score of the set, before Raiola and Myers tallied back-to-back kills to give TCU a one-set advantage. Raiola and Adams led the team with four kills each while Myers and Manyang were close behind with three each. McKenzie Nichols spread the ball well throughout the set, keeping the OU defense on its toes, she finished the set with 12 assists.
Set 2 (TCU, 25-23): Momentum shifts continued into the second set as TCU established a five-point lead in the middle of the set, 17-12, only for Oklahoma to come storming back with an 11-5 scoring run to go in front, 23-22. But TCU came through when it mattered most, winning the last three points of the set with a kill from Raiola and a pair of blocks from Myers and Nichols to go in front, two sets to none. Raiola did the lion's share of work for the Frogs, making six kills and four digs in the set. Bramschreiber led the back row with five digs while Myers made her presence felt at the net, making three blocks, including two on the final two points.
Set 3 (OU, 25-18): TCU took its foot off the gas in the third set as Oklahama's offense found its groove to the tune of 14 kills on .345 hitting. The Sooners went on a 9-3 scoring run, making a 10-10 score into a 19-13 advantage. The Frogs traded points with them until the end, never getting within four points of the visitors. Manyang was the bright spot on the TCU side of the net as she made five kills on six swings (.833 hitting) but the Sooners claimed the set by seven points.
Set 4 (OU, 25-23): The Sooners block came to life in the fourth, keeping TCU's scoring runs to a minimum and shifting momentum across the net with five blocks over the course of the set. Both sides played strong defense but TCU couldn't avoid the block enough to scrape by. For the third time in the match, the score was tied, 23-23, but an attack error from TCU and Oklahoma's fifth block of the set doomed the Frogs. Dennison led the defensive effort with a very strong seven digs. Cole made three blocks as well to give TCU a fighting chance but .070 hitting from the Frogs meant the match would go to five sets.
Set 5 (OU, 15-13): TCU seemed poised to break its fifth set woes, going in front late, 12-10, thanks to outstanding defensive play from Dennison but the Sooners block made too much of an impact on the offensive system and Oklahoma would end the match on a 5-1 run and win the set, 15-13. Raiola and Myers were the only Frogs to make more than three attacks in the set (12 and eight respectively). Dennison's nine digs and two more blocks from Cole kept it close but three OU blocks and two service errors left TCU on the wrong side of the score.
