
Douglas Honored with ITA Regional Award

Freshman Ellie Douglas was named ITA Texas Regional Rookie of the Year.
FORT WORTH, Texas – Freshman Ellie Douglas earned another postseason honor on Saturday as she was named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Rookie of the Year for the Texas Region.
Douglas becomes the second player in program history to earned Rookie of the Year honors for the region after Anna Sydorska was honored in 2006. Douglas is now a finalist for the national award which will be announced on May 19.
Douglas, who earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Singles Championship, racked up 11 wins this season including five over ranked opponents. The McKinney, Texas native has been ranked for the last month in the singles poll and has climbed to as high as No. 51. Douglas, who joined the team in January, played solely at the No. 1 position in both singles and doubles and racked up six singles wins in her first season in the Big 12. Douglas was a unanimous selection as Big 12 Freshman of the Year and also to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team. Douglas rounded out her postseason honors by also being named to the All-Big 12 Singles First Team and the All-Big 12 Doubles Second Team with sophomore Aleksa Cveticanin.
The freshman will begin competition in the NCAA Singles Championship on Monday, May 20 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
