
Douglas Named Big 12 Freshman of the Year

Ellie Douglas was honored by the Big 12 Conference on Wednesday with Freshman of the Year honors.
FORT WORTH, Texas – For the first time in program history, TCU women's tennis freshman Ellie Douglas earned Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors as she and Aleksa Cveticanin were honored with All-Big 12 awards as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Douglas was a unanimous selection as Big 12 Freshman of the Year and also to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team. The McKinney, Texas native rounded out the postseason honors by also being named to the All-Big 12 Singles First Team and the All-Big 12 Doubles Second Team with sophomore Aleksa Cveticanin. Douglas becomes the seventh TCU player to earn All-Big 12 singles team honors while she and Cveticanin are the fourth pair to make an All-Big 12 doubles team.
Douglas, who earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Singles Championship, racked up 11 wins this season including five over ranked opponents. Douglas has been ranked for the last month in the singles poll and has climbed to as high as No. 51. Douglas, who joined the team in January, played solely at the No. 1 position in both singles and doubles and racked up six singles wins in her first season in the Big 12.
As a pair, Douglas and Cveticanin picked up 12 victories including two over ranked foes. The duo also scored six wins in Big 12 action and posted a 10-match winning streak during the spring season. Douglas and Cveticanin entered the rankings the first week of March and stayed there the rest of the season as the pair climbed to as high as No. 27.
The team portion of the TCU women's tennis team's season came to an in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championship. The Horned Frogs finished the 2019 season with 12 wins overall including two over ranked opponents.
