FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU cruised to a 90-63 victory over Houston Baptist Thursday night at Wilkerson-Greines.
The Rundown
With the win, the Horned Frogs, who went on a 32-4 run midway through the first half to blow the game wide-open, moved to 2-0 on the young season, while Houston Baptist dropped to 1-2. TCU has now won 20-straight non-conference games and eclipsed the 90-point mark for a second-straight game, which hasn't happened since 2010.
On the night, TCU, who held HBU to only 19 first half points, had five players score in double-figures and were carried by senior Devonta Abron's career-high 19 points. Vladimir Brodziansky and Chauncey Collins followed, scoring 13 points apiece, respectively. Malique Trent chipped in with 12 points on 4-of-8 from the field. JD Miller rounded out the Frog notables with 11 points.
For a second-straight game, the Frogs won the rebound margin, recording a 36-28 advantage. Karviar Shepherd, who dished out a career and team-high six assists, led TCU with a game-high nine boards. Brodziansky followed with six rebounds, while also swatting away four blocks.
TCU did most of its damage Thursday scoring off turnovers, tallying a 24-6 advantage. The Frogs also dished the rock 21 times, while shooting almost 50 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the charity stripe.
The Frogs continued on the attack early on in the second half as Brodziansky posted back-to-back blocks and then watched as Shepherd drilled a three ball during opening stages of the period. A few moments later, Miller would receive the rock from Trent and TCU was once again in business now up 51-29 with 14 minutes showing on the clock.
With the Frogs leading 62-40 midway through the half, Michael Williams tickled the twine from deep to increase the TCU advantage. The two teams would go back and forth the next couple of trips, but the Frogs would push their lead to 70-48 and never look back, winning comfortably Thursday night.
TCU jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the contest when Collins went coast-to-coast for the layup plus the foul at the 16:29 mark of the opening frame. A few plays later, Shepherd would get into the act and help the Frogs soar to a 10-4 lead with a little over 14 minutes remaining in the period.
The Purple and White pushed its advantage to 21-6 down the stretch, scoring on an old fashioned three-point play with 7:46 showing on the clock. The Frogs would keep on rolling, jumping all over HBU at 31-6, which was part of a 21-2 run.
Brodziansky would score on back-to-back trips down the stretch, which made it a 37-10 ballgame in favor of TCU. Brandon Parrish then tickled the twine from deep and the route was on as the Frogs had busted it open at 42-10.
TCU took a 44-19 lead into intermission.

Quote of the Game
Trent Johnson
"Today was a positive step in the right direction. The big emphasis for us is not one position, but everybody needs to take care of the ball. We've got to be stronger with the ball. We have to make better decisions, but we have a lot of guys who haven't played basketball at this level. These are the things we have to continue to harp on and get better at."
