TCU ends season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament
GREENVILLE, S.C. – No. 9 seeded TCU held a second-half lead before falling to No. 1 seed and top-ranked Duke, 81-58, Saturday night in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
A jumper by Micah Robinson gave the Horned Frogs (23-11) a 40-38 lead with 16:15 remaining after trailing by four at halftime.
The game was tied 44-44 with 13:56 remaining following a layup by Jayden Pierre. From that point on TCU was outscored 37-14 and finished with its lowest point total of the season. In the second half, Duke (34-2) used a 14-3 run to build a 70-50 lead.
The Frogs battled foul trouble throughout the game as Xavier Edmonds and Liutaurus Lelevicius scored each had three fouls in the first half. Edmonds picked up his fourth six minutes into the second half and fouled out with six minutes to play, playing just under 20 minutes and finished with 12 points.
Robinson led the Frogs for the second-straight game with 18 points, including three made 3-pointers. All-Big 12 forward David Punch, who was elbowed in the nose in the first half, was held to four points and two rebounds.
Duke, who outrebounded TCU 42-25, was led by Cameron Boozer. The All-American scored 17 of his game-high 19 points in the second half and finished with 11 boards.
The Blue Devils made the most of their free throw opportunities, making 20-of-23 attempts from the free throw line, while the Frogs made 5-of-10.
