FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU women's tennis head coach Lee Taylor Walker announced the signing of top junior American tennis player Marie Norris to a National Letter Intent on Monday.
Norris, a native of Burdett, Kan., who trains in Boca Raton, Fla., and takes classes through the Florida Virtual School, has been ranked among the nation's top 10 junior players, is a blue-chip recruit and is the No. 3 ranked WTA American player in the 2015 class.
"We couldn't be more happy about Marie coming to TCU," Walker said. "On the court, off the court, as a player and a person, she fits so well here at TCU and what we want our women's tennis program to be about. Her work ethic is very unique, as well as her fight and tenacity on the court. Combine this with her outgoing personality and humor, and we have a great new Horned Frog family member.
"I'm looking forward to watching her compete more the next several months and communicating with her coach consistently, so we can develop a more clear understanding of her game and a vision to accomplish her goals. It's going to be a lot of fun!"
This year alone, Norris has defeated multiple ranked WTA professional players including some as high as No. 300. Norris has also taken out junior ITF tennis players ranked in the top 20 in the world, as well as the No. 3 and No. 7 ranked junior players in the United States.
Norris was named the 2012 Eddie Herr International 16's champion and has earned a career-high ITF junior ranking of No. 129, and a career-high professional WTA ranking of No. 779.
Norris has been actively competing on the USTA Pro Circuit for the last few years and has ben a quarterfinalist at Amelia Island, Hilton Head and Evansville. Norris has also seen success in the ITF tournaments and was a quarterfinalist at the Evert American ITF Junior Circuit, a semifinalist at the ITF Jamaica Junior International Championships and a finalist at an ITF tournament in Daytona Beach.
