AUSTIN, Texas - The TCU Horned Frogs suffered their first defeat of the young season, 3-0 (18-25, 12-25, 12-25), to the third-ranked Texas Longhorns. For the second straight match Christy Hudson paced the Frogs with nine kills, while Meghan Horio tallied 12 digs to lead the defensive charge.Kristen Hester pitched in with six kills, while Irene Hester notched four in the contest. After falling behind 12-3 in the first set, the Frogs showed some resolve as they went on a 13-6 run to pull back within two, 18-16. Irene Hester was solid in the run with two kills. Hudson blasted three kills and teamed with Emily Kirby on a block to help the comeback. The Longhorns responded with a 5-0 run that crushed any hopes of a comeback as they rolled to a 25-18 set one victory.
The Frogs attempted to keep the second set close as they battled back from an early 8-2 deficit. Kristen Hester and Munce dropped in kills to cut the lead to four. Back-to-back blasts from Hudson pulled the Frogs within three and another kill from Munce made it a 10-8 contest.
A service error by the Frogs spurred an 8-0 rally by the Longhorns, squelching the Frog momentum. Hannah Fort put a stop to the run with a kill to the middle of the court, but the Longhorns responded with another 4-0 run and they went on to lock up the commanding 2-0 match lead with a 25-12 set two victory.
Texas took control of the third set early, jumping out to a 15-5 lead. TCU tried to mount a rally with a 5-3 run that pulled it back within eight, 18-10. The run was highlighted by kills from Hudson, Kristen Hester and Irene Hester. However, it was too little too late as Texas used a 7-2 run to win set three, 25-12.
