FORT WORTH, Texas - Seniors Nina Munch-Soegaard and Megan Alexander both appeared in the Campbell's/ITA preseason singles rankings, announced Friday. Munch-Soegaard opens the fall semester ranked No. 14 in singles action, while Alexander debuts for the Frogs at No. 111.
"I'm really happy to see Nina start off so high," TCU head coach Jefferson Hammond said. "I'm looking forward to see the Frogs climbing the ladder this fall, improving their individual rankings as they go."
Munch-Soegaard, a junior from Amarillo, Texas, earned a final national singles ranking of No. 22 last spring after posting a record of 5-4 from the top position and compiling an overall mark of 18-9. Munch-Soegaard has earned final rankings in all three seasons as a Horned Frog, garnering a No. 62 in 2008 and a No. 109 ranking as a freshman.
Munch-Soegaard was the Mountain West Conference's automatic bid to the 2009 NCAA Singles Championships as the highest ranked singles player in the league. She garnered a top-16 national seed in the tournament and became the fourth singles All-American in TCU history, joining Nicole Leimbach (2006), Story Tweedie-Yates (2005) and Rene Simpson (1988).
Alexander, a 5-6 righthander from Dallas, joined the Frogs' this summer after she compiled a successful profile at the NCAA level while competing at Florida. A two-time NCAA All-American for the Gators, Alexander has climbed to a high position of No. 17 in the Cambell's/ITA singles rankings during her career, while she reached a ranking of No. 5 in the ITA doubles listing with former UF partner Marrit Boonstra in the spring of 2008.
TCU opens the fall season Sept. 18-20 at the Racquet Club Invitational in Midland, Texas.
