FORT WORTH, Texas - Former TCU All-American and WTA professional Story Tweedie-Yates has accepted the assistant coach position at Fresno State for the 2009-10 season.
"Story was a fierce competitor and a leader on the court as a player and she should be the same as a coach," TCU head coach Jefferson Hammond said. "It is great to see her with a nice position for a quality team. It is neat to see a former Frog become a coach."
During Tweedie-Yates' college career, she earned All-American honors in singles and doubles during her senior year at TCU in 2004-05. She finished the season ranked No. 11 in the final ITA Tennis Singles Rankings and led her squad to the Conference-USA championship match. The Horned Frogs earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament that year and advanced to the second round. She was also the Conference-USA Player of the Year and earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI honors.
Professionally Tweedie-Yates played four years on the WTA tour with 143 singles and 159 doubles matches in her career. She reached a career high singles ranking of 316 on Jan. 15, 2007, and 189 in doubles on May 25, 2009 and competed as recently as August of 2009.
