
Harkins Run At Grapevine $50,000 Comes To An End

FORT WORTH, Texas - Former TCU women's tennis player Macall Harkins saw her time at the USTA Grapevine $50,000 run out after bowing out Wednesday at the Hilton-DFW Lakes Tennis and Sports Club in Grapevine, Texas. Harkins dropped her opening round match to No. 1 seed Stephanie Dubois.
Harkins battled her way into the singles main draw and passing through the qualifying draw, which began Sunday. The Palos Verdes, Calif., native took down sixth-seeded Shikha Uberoi in the opening qualifier, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6). Harkins defeated Brittany Augustine, 6-1, 7-6 (3) to advance into the qualifying finals against Anastasia Kharchenko. Harkins secured her spot in the singles main draw with a straight set victory, 7-5, 7-5.
As a senior, Harkins boasted the second-most wins of the season with an overall singles record of 26-14, including a 15-10 clip from the No. 1 and 2 positions during the spring. She ranked as high as No. 49 on the Campbells/ITA college singles list, finishing the season at No. 90, defeating 11 nationally-ranked opponents. Harkins also claimed All-MWC singles honors with a 5-1 record against the league.
