
Volleyball inks four prep stars for 2008

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU Volleyball Head Coach Prentice Lewis announced the signing of the fall class of 2008. In all, the volleyball team inked four recruits whom will be freshman next season. Sarah Joeckel (OH/DS, Arlington, Texas), Hannah Fort (MB, Magnolia, Texas), Jessica Menden (S, Shakopee, Minn.) and Megan Munce (S/RS, Costa Mesa, Calif.) will join the TCU volleyball program in the fall of 2008."This is a fantastic class for TCU Volleyball," said Lewis. "We are looking forward to seeing this group carry out the tradition of 20+ winning seasons."
An all-state performer at Arlington High School, Joeckel has achieved many accomplishments in her four-year prep career. The 2006 District 8-5A Defender of the Year was also named the Co-Offensive Player of the Year following a successful junior campaign in which she tallied 471 kills and 405 digs. She was named to the all-area team by the Dallas Morning News as well as the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's super team. Following her sophomore season, she was named first-team all-district and Co-Defensive Player of the Year.
As a senior, Joeckel has tallied 508 kills and 460 digs while earning all-tournament honors at the Pearland Classic and the Duncanville Tournament.
"We are very pleased to get such a talented athlete here at TCU," remarked Lewis. "We are looking forward to watching her excel at the collegiate level."
Fort hails from the Houston area where she has received numerous accolades throughout her high school career. She was named to the Greater Houston Area first team as well as being named first-team all-Montgomery County. Following her junior campaign, she was named second-team All-American by Sports Quest and was the 2006 Blocker of the Year in District 15-5A. She was also named Magnolia High School's Offensive Player of the Year. This past year, Fort participated with the Junior Olympic team and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
"Hannah is an explosive, quick middle blocker," said Lewis. "We look forward to seeing her contribution to this team."
A highly-decorated setter from Shakopee, Minn., Menden has tallied over 3,000 assists in her career which began her eighth grade year when she first started playing varsity volleyball. She is a four-time all-conference player as well as being a three-time all-state honoree. She was named to the Star Tribune's second-team all-metro squad as a junior and improved her status as a senior to a first-team accolade. Menden recently led her high school squad to the Minnesota state championship title where she earned all-tournament honors.
The last three seasons, Menden has been named by the Star Tribune as a Player to Watch for the upcoming year. She has earned numerous Athlete of the Week accolades by various news outlets as well. While performing on the court, she has also excelled in the classroom and is a four-time academic all-conference selection.
"Jess is a talented setter," raved Lewis. "We are looking forward to seeing her bring the championship attitude to TCU Volleyball."
Munce was tabbed by Prepvolleyball.com as one of the top 250 recruits in the nation after four outstanding seasons at Newport Harbor High School. She has been a first-team all-conference performer. While leading her high school squad, Munce was also a familiar face in the club volleyball scene as she helped her Orange County Volleyball club team win the Reno Festival tournament this past July.
"Megan is a dynamic athlete that we are very pleased to have on our roster,"stated?Lewis. "As a lefty she surprises her opponents and she has great hands, too."
