FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU women's tennis sophomore Nicole Leimbach is the No. 1 seed for the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, which take place over Nov. 3-6 in Columbus, Ohio, at the Racquet Club of Columbus. The indoors are the second of three grand slam tournaments in collegiate tennis.Leimbach became the Horned Frogs' first grand slam winner when she claimed the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in October. She holds a 5-0 record heading into the indoors and has posted four victories against players ranked in the top 30. Leimbach, who is ranked third nationally, is scheduled to face No. 16-rated Natalie Frazier from Georgia in the first round Thursday.
Senior Helena Besovic, who is ranked 21st, will also compete in singles for the Frogs. Besovic reached the semifinals of the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Championships in October and won the doubles with freshman Anna Sydorska. Besovic takes on Arkansas' Ela Kaluder in round one. In doubles, she and Sydorska play the No. 47 duo of Eva Dickes and Bianca Dulgheru of Pepperdine.
Having three bids at the ITA National Indoors is a program best for TCU. Last year, the Purple and White was represented by Besovic and Story Tweedie-Yates. TCU's only other appearances at the event were in 1988 and 2000.
