Leimbach advances to ITA All-American semifinals

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- TCU women's tennis sophomore Nicole Leimbach advanced to the semifinals of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., on Friday. She is the first Horned Frog in the history of the event to reach the semis.
Leimbach, who is ranked No. 3 in the country, defeated No. 29 Carolin Walter from Baylor in her first match, 6-3, 6-3. In the quarterfinals, she upended the nation's eighth-ranked player, Georgia Tech's Kristi Miller, in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5.
Helena Besovic came up on the short end of a three-set match with No. 26 Anne Yelsey of Stanford. The No. 21-ranked Besovic fell in a tiebreaker by a 10-8 score in the third set. Yelsey won the first set 6-3, while Besovic was a 6-4 winner in the second.
In the first round of doubles consolation play, the No. 17 tandem of Ana Cetnik and Leimbach fell to USF's No. 7 duo of Gabrielle Duch and Neyssa Etienne, 8-2.
Leimbach will faced unranked Amanda Fink from Southern California on Saturday. Fink survived the pre-qualifying and qualifying rounds of the ITA All-American before reaching the main draw. She has won nine consecutive matches in the event.
