TCU's Besovic, Leimbach advance in ITA All-American

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- TCU's Helena Besovic and Nicole Leimbach advanced to the round of 16 in the Riviera/ITA All-American Women's Tennis Championships on Thursday in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Both Horned Frogs knocked off opponents ranked in the top 25 to move forward in the national event.
Besovic, who is ranked No. 21, defeated 24th-rated Elena Gantcheva from UNLV in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6(4). Leimbach, the nation's third-ranked player, was a 6-2, 7-5 winner against No. 15 Kim Coventry of Kentucky.
In doubles action, the No. 17-rated tandem of Leimbach and Ana Cetnik fell to the nation's top-ranked duo of Caroline Basu and Shadisha Robinson from Georgia by an 8-3 count. Leimbach and Cetnik will compete in consolation play Friday.
Two rounds of singles will be played Friday. Besovic takes on Stanford's Anne Yelsey, ranked 26th, while Leimbach faces No. 29 Carolin Walter of Baylor.
