Besovic, Cetnik reach quarters at ITA Regional

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Helena Besovic and Ana Cetnik from the TCU women's tennis team reached the singles quarterfinals in the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Championships on Sunday in College Station, Texas. Besovic and Anna Sydorska advanced to the quarters in doubles as well.
Besovic, ranked 21st and seeded third for the tournament, defeated Svetlana Kouzmenko of SMU 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in her first match and then upended Texas' Courtney Zauft 6-1, 6-1. Besovic and Sydorska had little trouble in their doubles contest with Zuzana Cerna and Klara Zrustova from Baylor, winning 8-4 in the round of 16.
Cetnik, who is ranked No. 116 and seeded 11th, was a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 winner against Emilija Arnoudovska of Southeastern Louisiana in her round of 32 match. She then picked up a straight-set victory over No. 33-ranked and fifth-seeded Jenny Kuehn from Tulane 7-6(1), 6-3.
In other singles action, Sydorska registered a 6-1, 6-3 win versus No. 20-rated and second-seeded Petra Dizdar of Texas. She fell in her next match to No. 101 Klara Zrustova from Baylor 6-3, 6-2.
Gloriann Lopez and Andrea Morgado lost their main draw round of 32 matches to Baylor's Zuzana Cerna and Texas A&M's Anna Blagodarova. The duo lost its doubles match-up with No. 26-ranked Daniella Covello and Carolin Walter of Baylor in the round of 16 by an 8-4 count.
Lopez and Morgado found some success in the consolation singles draw. Lopez came away with a 6-7(3), 7-6(1), (10-5) triumph over Texas A&M's Nicki Mechem, while Morgado cruised past LSU's Marina Chiarelli 6-3, 6-0.
