Jason Williams was named the fourth head coach in TCU Volleyball history on Dec. 20, 2021, and recently wrapped up his fifth season at the helm of the program in 2025.

A native of nearby Plano, Texas, Williams arrived in Fort Worth following a highly successful assistant coaching tenure at Baylor from 2015-2022. Williams’ seven years in Waco saw him climb the ranks from volunteer assistant in 2015 to full-time assistant in 2016 and then associate head coach in 2020.

Over the course of his collegiate coaching career, Williams has helped produce 15 AVCA All-Americans, 26 All-Region honorees and 41 All-Conference nods, in addition to the 2019 Big 12 Championship.

One of Williams’ most significant accomplishments since arriving at TCU has been reinvigorating a passion for the sport across campus. In each of his first two seasons, the Horned Frogs broke the program record for single-game attendance average in a season, with 1,642 fans in 2022 and 2,247 fans in 2023 packing Schollmaier Arena each match, including a record with a crowd of 7,412 to see TCU face off against No. 6 Texas on Oct. 18, 2023. In total, 110,483 fans have attended matches in Schollmaier Arena over the course of Williams’ first four seasons, with an average attendance of 1,904.

During his fourth season with the program, Williams continued to establish TCU as a national brand in the sport. The Frogs spent the entire 2025 season ranked in the AVCA Coaches’ Poll, climbing as high as No. 9 to reach their best ranking in school history, won 20 matches in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2008-09 and took down a program record six top-25 opponents, including No. 5 Penn State and No. 8 Texas A&M.

Finishing with a successful 21-11 record on the year, TCU punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight season under Williams. The Frogs swept SFA in the First Round to become one of 15 teams nationally to advance to the Round of 32 in each of the last four NCAA Tournaments.

One of the highlights of the year came when TCU overcame early-season adversity, defeating No. 5 Penn State in an emotional five-set battle at the State Farm College Volleyball Showdown in Pittsburgh. Senior captain and Preseason All-Big 12 outside hitter Jalyn Gibson suffered a season-ending injury in the third set, but her teammates rallied around her to help grit out the second-highest ranked win in school history and first career win over a top-5 opponent for Williams. Playing on Labor Day, the Frogs’ upset of the defending national champions drew 731,000 viewers on FOX, up 50 percent from last year’s equivalent match between Stanford and Wisconsin.

Under Williams, TCU’s sophomore class of Evan Hendrix, Becca Kelley and Alice Volpe cleaned up the postseason awards. Hendrix was a unanimous First Team All-Big 12 selection and earned AVCA Southwest All-Region honors after recording the third most kills (543) and second most points (592.0) in a single season in program history. Kelley earned All-Big 12 honors, landing on the second team after averaging nearly 3.00 kills per set, and Volpe secured an Honorable Mention All-Region nod after tallying 476 digs, the eighth most by a Frog in a single season.

Senior Sarah Sylvester also cemented herself as one of the best blockers in TCU history. After cracking the top 10 in total blocks last season, she climbed all the way to the No. 2 spot with 482.0 in her four-year career in purple. Sylvester saw her blocks increase each year and owns three of the top 10 individual blocking seasons in school history.

In his third season at the helm of TCU volleyball, Williams has led the Horned Frogs to one of their best seasons in school history. In 2024, TCU received its first national ranking ever, cracking the top 25 of the AVCA Coaches’ poll, where it stayed for 14 straight weeks. He also guided four Horned Frogs to All-Conference honors and two to AVCA All-Southwest Region Honors, including Melanie Parra, who was named Big 12 Player of the Year, Region Player of the Year and a semifinalist for the AVCA’s 2024 Division I Player of the Year Award.

Overall, TCU recorded its highest RPI ever, wrapping up the regular season 16th in the country. The Frogs earned a third straight NCAA Tournament bid, punching their ticket to the Eugene Regional, where they defeated Hawaii 3-0 in the opening round of the Big Dance to advance to the Round of 32.

With a 22-8 record on the season, TCU notched its first 20-win campaign since 2011, including a school record tying 14 wins on its home court in Schollmaier Arena. In Big 12 play, TCU posted a 13-5 mark, its most wins in conference play ever, to finish fifth in the league. Throughout the season, the Frogs knocked off three ranked opponents, No. 18 Minnesota (3-2), No. 14 Baylor (3-1) and No. 23 BYU (3-2), and Williams earned his 50th career victory as a head coach to become the fastest to 50 wins in TCU volleyball history.

Individually, Parra posted one of the best seasons by an outside hitter in Big 12 history, topping the 500-kill mark. The senior led all Power 4 attackers during the regular season and finished 2024 with a single-season program record 669.5 points and 573 kills, the most in the rally scoring era in school history. Throughout the season, she earned six Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors, tying the conference record, and became the first woman in Division I Volleyball history to win back-to-back AVCA/GameChanger Player of the Week honors (Sept. 10 & 17).

Sarah Sylvester won two Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week awards and totaled the fifth most blocks in a single season in program history. Jalyn Gibson had a career year, earning First Team All-Big 12 honors and AVCA All-Southwest Region laurels. Alice Volpe and Becca Kelley rounded out the award winners, taking home All-Big 12 Rookie Team honors.

Williams’ second year saw the Horned Frogs make the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season – the second time in school history that TCU has advanced to consecutive NCAA Tournament Round of 32. The Frogs earned their second consecutive NCAA Tournament First Round win, defeating No. 22 Florida State, 3-1, on Dec. 1 to become one of only 24 schools nationally to earn tournament victories in 2022 and 2023. TCU also earned three ranked wins, the most in program history, and 13 victories over AVCA Top 100 teams (nine wins against AVCA Top 50 teams), including back-to-back wins over No. 20 Baylor on the road for the first ranked road wins in school history.

The Horned Frogs saw tremendous success on the court in 2023, recording the most assists (1,496), digs (1,881) and kills (1,620) since 2011, aces (167) and points (2,107) since 2009 and blocks (320) since 2007. Three student-athletes received All-Big 12 honors in Melanie Parra, Jalyn Gibson and Audrey Nalls. Parra and Gibson also garnered AVCA All-Southwest Region First Team accolades.

Under Williams, Parra became the first player in TCU history to be named to one of the three All-American teams, earning AVCA Third Team All-American honors. She took the nation by storm, averaging 4.38 kills per set (17th nationally) and 5.17 points per set (12th nationally) while recording a pair of 34-kill matches for the Frogs.

Off the court, Williams and his staff signed the No. 9 ranked recruiting class for the 2024 season, according to PrepVolleyball.com, further bolstering the program’s foundation for future success.

Williams was nothing short of an instant success in his inaugural head coaching season in 2022. After being tabbed to finish seventh in the Big 12 preseason poll, TCU finished third outright in the conference standings behind a 17-11 overall record and program-record 11 wins in Big 12 play. The third-place finish was TCU’s best in 11 years of conference membership. The Horned Frogs then earned their fourth-ever NCAA Tournament Berth and first in six years, advancing to the Round of 32 following a 3-1 opening-round win over national power Washington.

Under Williams’ leadership, TCU produced the biggest turnaround season of any Power Five conference volleyball program in 2022. TCU enjoyed the largest year-over-year win improvement of any team. The Horned Frogs were the only program to more than double their overall win total and more than quintuple their conference victories from 2021. TCU’s nine-win improvement in conference play was also the best of any program in the 64-team NCAA Tournament field.

Individually, Williams coached Audrey Nalls and his daughter, Callie Williams, to All-Big 12 first team recognition. He also saw Nalls named to the AVCA All-Southwest Region Team. The duo helped TCU lead the Big 12 with five conference Offensive Player of the Week selections. As for himself, Williams became the first head coach in program history to win 10 or more home matches and conference duals in his first season at the helm.

Also a member of the USA Volleyball coaching staff pipeline, Williams serves as an assistant coach and scout for the USA National Team Development Program, where he coaches and mentors some of the top junior volleyball athletes in the country.

Prior to TCU, Williams was instrumental in helping Baylor, posting six consecutive 20-win seasons and NCAA Tournament appearances. In conference play, the Bears finished first or second in the Big 12 in his final five seasons with the program. In 2019, Baylor earned a No. 1 national ranking, won the program's first Big 12 championship with a 15-1 conference record, was the NCAA Tournament's No. 1 overall seed and reached the Final Four. During his tenure in Waco, Williams coached six players to All-America honors, including 2019 AVCA National Player of the Year and five-time All-American Yossiana Pressley. In 2021, the Bears climbed as high as No. 6 in the national rankings and made their third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 following a 22-6 season.

Before arriving at Baylor, Williams was a highly successful coach at the junior club level in Texas. In the 10 years prior to his time in Waco, Williams led his club teams to annual top 20 national rankings, with eight of those squads in the top 10.

He was a four-sport athlete (football, basketball, baseball and track) at Plano East Senior High School. Williams went on to play football at Austin College. Williams then embarked on a successful beach volleyball career.

Williams' wife, the former Cory Sivertson, was also a setter and became the first volleyball player inducted into the Baylor Hall of Fame. She closed her career holding 18 school records, many of which still stand. Williams credits his successes on the volleyball court to Cory's success, knowledge and influence.

The couple currently resides in Fort Worth and has two grown children, Callie and Barrett. Callie played for her father for three years at Baylor before earning First Team All-Big 12 honors in her final season of eligibility at TCU in 2022.
