Preview: Players Era Volleyball Showcase

LAS VEGAS – No. 18 TCU volleyball opens the 2026 season against No. 2 Texas and UNLV at the Players Era Volleyball Showcase Aug. 29-30 inside T-Mobile Arena. Both matches will be nationally televised on FS1.
TCU TIDBITS
• Last season, the Horned Frogs recorded 20+ wins for the second consecutive year, marking their first back-to-back 20-win seasons since 2008-09.
• Four of TCU's first five opponents to start the season are ranked inside the top 11.
• Jalyn Gibson, Evan Hendrix and Becca Kelley were voted to the Preseason All-Big 12 team by the league's head coaches. TCU's three selections are tied for the most of any school in the conference.
• The Frogs were picked to finish second in the Big 12 Preseason Poll behind defending champs Arizona State.
• Hendrix became the seventh AVCA All-American in program history last year, landing on the third team. She was tabbed to the AVCA Player of the Year Watch List to start the season.
• After suffering a season-ending ACL injury against No. 5 Penn State last September, Gibson is back for her fifth and final year of eligibility.
• Last year, TCU picked up wins over the defending and eventual National Champions. The Frogs knocked off No. 5 Penn State (Sept. 1) and No. 8 Texas A&M (Sept. 10). The only other team in the nation to do that was Texas, TCU's first opponent of the 2026 season.
• TCU's 2026 schedule features 17 NCAA Tournament teams from last season, including seven that advanced to the Sweet 16.
• Of the Horned Frogs' 29 matches, 21 will be against teams that played in the postseason.
• TCU won a program record six matches against top-25 opponents last season, proving that the Frogs can play with the best in the country.
• Half of TCU's roster is new for the 2026 season. The Frogs welcomed in three freshmen and added six transfers.
SCOUTING REPORT
Despite beginning the season ranked No. 2 in the AVCA Preseason Poll, the Longhorns were picked to finish second SEC by the leagues head coaches. Senior Torrey Stafford and sophomore Cari Spears were named to the Preseason All-SEC Team after both earned All-SEC First Team honors in 2025. The duo led Texas to the Elite 8 and a 26-4 record last season. The Longhorns opened their 2026 season at the AVCA First Serve. Texas fell to No. 12 Arizona State in four sets but bounced back with a five-set victory over Marquette on Monday.
Texas leads the all-time series 26-1, with TCU's only win coming in Fort Worth in 2015 when the Frogs swept No. 2 Texas. The two teams played in Austin last season and met twice in the Spring.
Coming off a 13-15 season in 2025, UNLV was picked to finish sixth in the Mountain West Preseason Poll. Outside hitter Jaida Harris headlines the Rebels after being named the Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year. Last season, Harris led the UNLV with 370 kills and 439 points while adding 38 service aces. Overall, the Rebels return 11 letterwinners from last year's squad.
Old Mountain West Conference foes, the Frogs and Rebels will meet for the first time since 2011. UNLV leads the all-time series 12-5.
