TCU finds way to pull out season-opening win on road

MADISON, Wis. – The late-game dramatics strike again, as the TCU women's soccer team pulled out a gritty 1-0 win over No. 22 Wisconsin on Thursday at the McClimon Soccer Complex.

Despite not recording a single shot on goal, TCU was able to find an answer in the 79th minute off a Wisconsin own goal that occurred off a corner kick. Olivia Geller was a star tonight, recording six incredible saves to keep TCU in the game and help lead the Horned Frogs to the win.

Even with Wisconsin outshooting the Frogs 13-2 and recording six shots on goal, the Frogs were able to fight and stay resilient, striking when the moment was right and coming out of the night victorious.

The first half saw TCU mainly playing on the defensive end for most of the half. The Frogs did post their only two shots of the night throughout the first 45 minutes, but Wisconsin held most of the momentum and was left knocking on the doorstep as the two teams headed into the locker room.

Coming out of the break, the two teams stayed gridlocked at 0-0 apiece. Wisconsin was able to rattle of seven shots throughout the first portion of the second stanza, keeping TCU on its toes and forcing them to play defense for most of the second half.

As the game entered the final 20 minutes, the tide started to turn as TCU started to build up possession and gain some momentum with each passing minute. In the 79th minute, the scoresheet finally saw a change.

After TCU's press forced a corner kick for the Frogs, Bella Diorio, who returned to the starting lineup after missing last season due to injury, lined up to take the kick. After launching a ball that was headed right towards Kamdyn Fuller's head, a Wisconsin defender headed the ball into the net, giving TCU a 1-0 advantage with just over 10 minutes to play.

With the momentum shift secured, TCU settled into true form and was able to keep the Badgers from creating any real chances on goal, coming out on top as the clock struck zero.

Tonight marks TCU's first-ever win over Wisconsin. Previously, the Frogs were 0-2-1 against the Badgers.
Olivia Geller continued off her dazzling end to the 2025 season, posting her fourth straight five-plus save performance.
TCU has won its season-opening showdown for the fourth straight season.
For the second time during the Eric Bell era, TCU opened its season against a ranked opponent, and this year marks the first time this instance has happened on the road. The Frogs won both matchups, defeating No. 20 Alabama back in 2024 and now 22nd-ranked Wisconsin today.
TCU has already secured a ranked road win. Last season, TCU picked up two ranked victories on the road throughout the regular season, taking down No. 14 Kansas and ninth-ranked Iowa.
Cameron Patton, Zoe Cuneio, Kamdyn Fuller and Olivia Geller played all 90 minutes tonight for TCU.
Mackenzie Hilderman and Peyton Nourse secured their first collegiate starts in the win over Wisconsin.
Seven players made their TCU debut tonight.
Five players came in as substitutions tonight for TCU: Kaela Martinez, Madison Taylor, Giovanna Costanzo, Cameron Byrd and Grace Vest.
