TCU and Roadrunners finish with a tie after competitive 90-minute battle
FORT WORTH – In the home opener for the No. 6 TCU women's soccer team, the Horned Frogs were level with a 2-2 ledger after 90 minutes against UTSA at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
Goals were scored by freshman Mackenzie Hilderman and sophomore Kamdyn Fuller, while a quartet of Horned Frogs secured assists tonight.
THE RUNDOWN
In a competitive and extremely physical first half, the score stayed level for nearly the entire first 45 minutes. TCU outshot the Roadrunners 7-3 in the first half, with three of those shots coming on goal. The Horned Frogs were in search of a goal before the first half ended, and they got exactly that with a little over five minutes remaining.
In the 40th minute, TCU would finally find a way to break through and open the scoring. Eres Freifeld sent in a free kick into the box that was batted around then landed at the feet of Fuller. The sophomore kicked the ball to her right where freshman Hilderman was able to put it into the back of the net for her first career goal as a Frog and give TCU a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
Less than 10 minutes into the second half, the Roadrunners were able to equalize to put the score at 1-1. Then, just over three minutes later, UTSA scored another goal to quickly turn the tide and secure the advantage early into the second stanza.
With 13 shots in the second half alone, TCU seemed destined to eventually break through and find another goal to equalize the match. In the 82nd minute, the goal came. Bella Diorio fired in a corner kick that was headed by Emma Yolinsky at the back post right to Fuller who smashed the ball away to tie up the contest.
The final eight minutes saw a trio of TCU shots and a corner kick, but the Frogs were unable to find the winner and the match ended at a 2-2 draw between the two teams.
