Sixth-seeded TCU outlasts No. 3 Ohio State in 4-3 thriller
ATHEHS, Ga. – For the fourth straight season, TCU is bound for the Final Four.
The second-ranked and No. 6 seed Horned Frogs ousted No. 3 Ohio State 4-3 in an NCAA quarterfinal dual on Thursday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia.
Once more, it was Duncan Chan who played hero. Chan rallied from a set down to defeat the Buckeyes' top-ranked singles player, No. 11 Aidan Kim, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 with the match level at 3-3.
Chan, ranked No. 8 nationally, earned his ninth career match-clincher and improved to 5-1 in clinching scenarios with a match tied 3-3. It was déjà vu for the Markham, Ontario, Canada native. Chan scored the decisive point on court six in TCU's 2025 quarterfinal victory over Virginia.
TCU (25-5) bounced the Buckeyes (32-5) from the Big Dance for the second time in three seasons. The Frogs upset top-seeded Ohio State 4-2 in the semifinals of the 2024 NCAA Tournament on their way to capturing the program's first outdoor national championship.
The victory sets up yet another battle between TCU and No. 1 Texas. The longstanding rivals will square off at 10 a.m. on Saturday for a ticket to the finals.
The match marks the third straight year Horned Frogs and Longhorns will face off at the final site of the NCAA Tournament. TCU beat Texas in the 2024 championship match and knocked out the Longhorns in last season's semifinals.
The Horned Frogs notched their eighth all-time NCAA semifinal berth with the victory. Six of the Final Fours have come under the leadership of head coach David Roditi. Now in his 16th year at the helm of his alma mater, Roditi led TCU to the penultimate postseason round in 1996 as a player and returned the Frogs to the stage for the first time as a head coach in 2016.
The doubles point loomed large in dictating the result. TCU broke the Buckeyes on their first service games on courts one and two. Albert Pedrico and Cooper Woestendick set the tone via a 6-0 bagel vs. No. 44 Alexander Bernard and Alex Okonkwo on the 2-line. The all-freshmen tandem of Oliver Bonding and Maximus Dussault secured the 1-0 lead, taking down the Kim and Bryce Nakashima 6-4 on court three.
Roger Pascual then rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Bernard on court six to stretch TCU's advantage to 2-0. Ohio State leveled the match with victories in the second and fifth positions before Woestendick served out a 6-3, 7-6 (4) tiebreaker triumph over No. 32 Jack Anthrop on court three.
Bonding led Ohio State's Nikita Filin 5-3 in set three, only to get broken twice and ultimately set the stage for Chan.
The Horned Frogs stretched their winning streak to 12 matches and are now 17-1 since the 2026 campaign shifted outdoors.
TCU picked up its 13th top-25 victory of the season.
The Frogs improved to 9-7 all-time in quarterfinal duals.
Roditi is now 39-11 in NCAA Tournament play.
Doubles Rundown
The turning point in doubles came midway through Bonding and Dussault's match. Even with the 45th-ranked Kim and Nakashima, the TCU pair twice broke to assume a commanding 5-2 lead.
The shift in momentum overlapped with a break point from Chan and Cosme Rolland De Ravel vs. Brandon Caprico and Filin in a top-10 battle at the 1-line. Chan and Rolland De Ravel, fourth in the ITA rankings, were up 5-4 and set to serve for their match when the action was halted.
Pedrico and Woestendick moved to 12-3 as partners and have won four of their last five matches. Thursday's result signified their first ranked win.
Bonding and Dussault locked up the doubles point for the fourth time in TCU's last six wins.
TCU swelled its season doubles record to 26-4 overall and has now dropped the doubles point since postseason play commenced.
The Horned Frogs are now 26-2 when securing a 1-0 lead in a match.

Pascual and Bonding kept the calculus in TCU's favor, as they claimed a pair of 6-2 opening frames. Woestendick then forged the pathway, breaking vs. Anthrop up four games to three.
Pascual handed the senior Bernard the final defeat of his career in a wire-to-wire performance. The lefty raced out to an insurmountable 5-1 lead in set two. The result sent Pascual, a sophomore from Spain, to his ninth straight win and team-leading 16th dual singles victory.
The quick clinic was critical in keeping TCU in control. Pedrico fell to Nakashima, 2-6, 6-7 (6) before the Buckeyes pulled even after Rolland De Ravel came up short vs. No. 31 Preston Stearns, 2-6, 5-7.
The match was rendered down to a best-of-three affair after Chan pushed his match vs. Kim to a third set. Chan rallied out of a 1-3 hole in set two via two breaks and won three consecutive games to close out his match.
Bonding was serving vs. Filin, who has now won 20 consecutive matches for the Buckeyes, up 5-3 but was unable to put the final point on the board for TCU.
Chan earned his team-leading 23rd singles victory and 17th win over a ranked opponent.
Woestendick stretched his winning streak to six matches and is now 14-3 on the year.
