No. 2 TCU blanks Big Red 4-0 in round of 32 clash
FORT WORTH – For the 11th consecutive season, TCU is bound for Super Regional Weekend.
Squaring off with Cornell in the round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament, the sixth-seeded Horned Frogs quickly quieted a squirrely Big Red bench and bombarded their way to a 4-0 shutout.
TCU (23-5) surrendered just two sets total in the Saturday afternoon affair at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The Horned Frogs pocketed five opening frames in singles action before Oliver Bonding, Albert Pedrico and Roger Pascual swept the bottom courts to make the end result academic.
With the win, the Frogs earned the opportunity to host a Sweet 16 match for the sixth time in as many years. TCU, tabbed No. 2 in the final ITA regular season rankings, faces either No. 10 Texas A&M or No. 18 Stanford at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 9 in the third round affair.
For a brief spell, TCU was in danger of falling behind 1-0 vs. Ivy League champion Cornell (19-4). The Big Red had simultaneous match point opportunities on courts two and three in doubles. Cornell claimed the 2-line, but Bonding and Maximus Dussault broke back on a deuce down 3-5 to give TCU a pulse. The point ignited a furious comeback, as the all-freshman duo won four straight games to close out a 7-5 victory over Felipe Pinzon and Petar Teodorovic.
The shift in momentum proved to be too much for Cornell to overcome. TCU secured a double or triple break in three first sets and led two of the remaining unfinished courts.
Pedrico followed a first set bagel vs. Pinzon on court five with a 6-2 second set decision to put the Horned Frogs on top 2-0.
Pascual was next to finish, as the lefty rolled to a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Aman Sharma at the bottom.
Bonding and Cosme Rolland De Ravel, who matched Pascual's first set score, jockeyed for the honors of the match-clincher. Ultimately, the freshman finished first, as he served out a controlled 6-4, 6-2 win vs. Rethin Kumar.
TCU extended its NCAA-leading home outdoor winning streak to 32 matches and won its 26th consecutive postseason dual on the purple courts.
The Horned Frogs improved their NCAA Tournament record to 63-34 overall and 37-11 under head coach David Roditi.
TCU collected its 12th top-30 victory of the 2026 campaign with the victory vs. Cornell, which entered the postseason as the nation's No. 29 ranked team.
Saturday's match marked the second time in the last three seasons TCU has blanked the Big Red in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
TCU has now won 10 straight matches and 15 of its last 16 dating back to March.
