Horned Frogs fall one point short in 4-3 defeat to top-ranked Texas
ATHEHS, Ga. – TCU had five match point opportunities but was unable to put away the nation's top-ranked team, as the Horned Frogs saw their season end in the semifinals of the NCAA Championships.
Squaring off with No. 1 Texas, the second-ranked and sixth-seeded Horned Frogs fell 4-3 in a Final Four dual at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia.
TCU (25-6) led the Longhorns (29-6) three times. The Horned Frogs took the doubles point and regained a 2-1 advantage via a straight set victory from Roger Pascual on court six. Albert Pedrico put TCU within a point of the finals, as the fellow sophomore Spaniard rallied for a 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 win on the 5-line over No. 102 Abel Forger.
But the pivotal match came on court one, where Duncan Chan was serving for the win up 6-4, 5-3 vs. No. 3 Sebastian Gorzny. Chan missed out on two service points to put Gorzny away, then failed to capitalize on a triple break point opportunity to clinch in the ensuing game.
"Gut-wrenching loss," said head coach David Roditi. "So many different ways to go about it. At the end of the day, what a college match. Lucky to be a part of it, lucky to be a part of a Final Four. So proud of our guys as a coach, as a father. So proud of our administration, our school, the way we were treated, the opportunity we get as coaches and as players to be here, and all the resources that go into making our dreams come true. It's unbelievable, and our guys really appreciate it. So proud of them."
TCU was swept on courts one through four. Texas leveled the match at 3-3 after Cosme Rolland De Ravel dropped a third set tiebreaker, 5-7, on court two to Kalin Ivanovski in a battle of top-50 players.
Gorzny earned the match-clincher at the expense of the eighth-ranked Chan, who came up short 3-6 in the third frame.
"Bummer that we lost today," Roditi said. "Texas came up with the goods there, and nothing we really did wrong. It's just sport, and that's why it's so special, because you can't script it any better. And there's so many stories there in this match. It sucks, hate to lose, but just want to say thank you. Congratulations to the [ITA] Hall of Fame class and to the two teams playing in the finals tomorrow. Go Frogs."
The loss ended TCU's bid to reach the national finals for the third time in as many seasons. TCU played in its fourth consecutive Final Four and eighth in program history.
The match was the 14th head-to-head between TCU and Texas since 2023, with both teams claiming seven victories apiece.
The Horned Frogs' 25 victories in the 2026 campaign are their fourth-most in a season in program history.
The loss dropped TCU's all-time NCAA Tournament record to 65-35 overall and 39-12 under Roditi.
TCU is set to return seven players from its roster, six of whom have between 2-3 years of eligibility remaining. The lone graduating player is Rolland De Ravel, meaning the Frogs will bring back five members of their singles lineup.
