To begin her professional career with Golden State Valkyries
NEW YORK CITY – Marta Suarez made her WNBA Dream come true on Monday night in the Big Apple.
The TCU graduate student was chosen with the No. 16 overall pick by the Seattle Storm in the 2026 WNBA Draft at The Shed at Hudson Yards. She was traded moments later to the Golden State Valkyries for the draft rights to LSU's Flau'Jae Johnson and a future second round pick.
Suarez's selection gave TCU the distinction of being one of only three programs alongside NCAA champion UCLA and national runner-up South Carolina to produce multiple top-20 draft choices.
Olivia Miles became the highest WNBA Draft pick in school history earlier in the evening when she was drafted No. 2 overall by the Minnesota Lynx.
TCU has now transformed four transfer players into WNBA Draft picls in the last calendar year. Hailey Van Lith and Madison Conner went in the first and third rounds in 2025.
Suarez transferred to TCU for the 2025-26 campaign after playing two seasons apiece at Tennessee (2020-21, 2022-23) and Cal (2023-25). She blossomed into one of the most coveted stretch forwards in the 2026 draft class over her nine months in Fort Worth.
The 6-3 Spaniard averaged a career-high 17.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 45 percent from the field and a career-best 37 percent from downtown. Suarez increased her scoring average to 20.2 points per night over her final 12 starts, helping lead TCU to a second straight Big 12 regular season title and NCAA Elite Eight appearance.
She closed the season as one of only six players in the country to tally at least 625 points and 275 rebounds. Suarez connected 84 times from distance, setting a Big 12 single-season record for made 3-pointers by a post player. She ranked sixth among all players standing 6-3 or taller in 3-point percentage for the year.
Suarez begins her professional journey ranked in the top-five on TCU's single-season records lists for free throw percentage (1st, .892), field goals made (2nd, 245), points scored (3rd, 648), 3-pointers (4th, 84) and rebounds (8th, 280).
She joined Miles as one of three unanimous All-Big 12 First Team players in March. Suarez also picked up her first set of All-American accolades after receiving honorable mention recognition from The Associated Press.
Suarez graduated from Cal with her bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies in 2025 and anticipates completing her Master of Liberal Arts degree from TCU in 2026.
