No. 5 TCU falls 4-3 to third-ranked Demon Deacons at Indoor Nationals
WACO, Texas – No. 5 TCU suffered its second heartbreaker in as many days in its final match at the ITA Indoor National Championships on Sunday.
Squaring off with reigning national champion Wake Forest, the Horned Frogs fell 4-3 to the third-ranked Demon Deacons in a match that was decided on a third set tiebreaker on the 1-line in singles.
TCU (8-3) again rolled to the doubles point was unable to find three more courts.
With the Horned Frogs trailing 3-2, Cosme Rolland De rallied from a set down and past No. 14 Luca Pow, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, on court two to send the match the distance.
The dual came down to a battle between No. 5 Duncan Chan and Wake Forest's DK Suresh. All three sets between the teams' top players went to tiebreaker. Chan claimed the second set 7-6 (2), setting up a third frame that featured four break points. Chan led the 21st-ranked Suresh 6-5 in the tiebreaker but could not find a final point, as Suresh took the match 7-6 (4), 6-7 (2), 7-6 (6).
"Another battle there against a really good team," said head coach David Roditi. "Just an unbelievable college match. Came down to the wire. Proud of our guys. We knew coming into this tournament that every match, you're playing a top team. That's why it's a national tournament. It makes you appreciate it more, what this team has been able to do the last four years, getting to the finals of the tournament. But we'll take the one win over LSU. Two tough losses. Good college match. We'll learn from it, get better, and move on. Go Frogs."
The Horned Frogs lost by an identical score to No. 6 Texas in Saturday's quarterfinals, ending the TCU's bid to become the first program to play for five straight indoor national titles.
TCU and Wake Forest met for the fourth time in a national tournament in the last two years. The teams faced off for the 2025 ITA Indoor National Championship and NCAA Championship. Sunday's loss shaved TCU's lead in the all-time series between the programs to 7-5.
The Horned Frogs dropped to 22-12 all-time at Indoor Nationals.
Doubles Rundown
TCU and Wake Forest both benefit from elite doubles play, but on Sunday, it was the Horned Frogs' whose was superior.
The Frogs picked up early break points on all three courts and never looked back.
Chan and Rolland De Ravel quickly put the Demon Deacons on their heels. They faced Aryan Shah and Kacper Szymkowiak on the 2-line and quickly broke to assume a 3-0 lead. Chan and Rolland De Ravel, who checked in at No. 22 in the ITA rankings ahead of the tournament, then secured a double break before polishing off an easy 6-1 win.
Concurrently, Filip Apltauer and Albert Pedrico led Pow and Charlie Robertson 4-1 on court three, while TCU's No. 1 pair, Oliver Bonding and Cooper Woestendick, inched in front of No. 3 Andrew Delgado and Suresh, 5-3.
As was the case in TCU's 4-1 win over No. 17 LSU on Friday, it was Apltauer and Pedrico who did clinching honors, as they served out a 6-3 decision.
Their match proved critical, as Bonding and Woestendick were broken twice and trailed Delgado and Suresh 5-6 when play was paused.
TCU moved to 11-0 in doubles play on the season. The Horned Frogs still have yet to lose on court two or three.
Chan and Rolland De Ravel increased their record as partners to 14-0 overall and 9-0 in duals. They went 3-0 on the weekend.
Apltauer and Pedrico are also unbeaten at 4-0.
Pedrico has clinched three doubles points across seven career matches at Indoor Nationals.

The only Frog to put a first set on the board was Woestendick, who extended his singles winning streak to six via a 6-3, 7-6 (3) triumph over No. 102 Mess Rottgering.
Wake Forest evened the match at 1-1 prior to Woestendick's victory on court five, as Pedrico was forced to retire trailing No. 89 Joaquin Guilleme 3-6, 3-4.
A 2-1 lead then transformed into a 3-2 deficit. The Demon Deacons pulled even after Roger Pascual came up short on the bottom vs. Domminick Mosejczuk, 4-6, 4-6. Wake Forest claimed court four in an all-British battle between TCU's Oliver Bonding and Charlie Robertson. Bonding dropped set one 4-6 and led 4-3 in a second set tiebreaker but lost four straight points and the match.
Rolland De Ravel gave TCU life and earned the highest-ranked win of his career over Pow. He picked up two break points in set three. TCU's lone senior, Rolland De Ravel notched his first-ever singles victory at Indoor Nationals.
Chan, Pedrico, Rolland De Ravel and Woestendick all notched four combined wins on the weekend to lead TCU.
