FORT WORTH- The No. 53 TCU women's tennis team will head down the road to Arlington as they take on the UT Arlington Mavericks on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in their last match before Big 12 play starts.
FROG FOCUS
The Horned Frogs are 4-3 this season and are playing in their first road game since Feb. 9 against UC Santa Barbara. The Frogs are coming off of a 4-3 victory over the Washington State Cougars.
The match started in doubles, where Helena Narmont and Yu-Chin Tsai won their first match as a duo in a 6-1 victory on court three. However, the Cougars won on courts two, 6-2 and one, 6-4, to take the doubles point.
In singles, the Horned Frogs fought back quickly when Tomi Main won on court five for the first time as a Frog in a commanding 6-1, 6-0 victory over Martina Markov. Maya Drozd gave TCU the 2-1 lead following 6-2, 6-1 win on court six. Yu-Chin Tsai moved to 4-1 in singles on the season as she took down Hania Abouelsaad on court three in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
But the Cougars fought back, taking court one 6-3, 6-3, and then winning in a three-set tiebreak on court two to even the score at 3.
It was captain Isabel Pascual who came up clutch for the Frogs. With the score tied at 3 and the last match on, Pascual was locked in a 4-4 third set with Washington State's Elyse Tse. But after holding serve to take the 5-4 lead, Pascual broke Tse's serve to clinch the match for TCU.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
The UT Arlington Mavericks are 4-3 this season, and 4-1 in their last five games. UT Arlington is 4-1 at home, with their sole loss coming in a 4-1 defeat to Grand Canyon on February 9.
The Mavericks have been red hot over their most recent home stretch, not surrendering a single point since February 9. In their last five home matches, the Mavericks have only surrendered six points.
This is the 14th time the crosstown teams are meeting, with the Frogs leading the all-time series, 13-0. This is the first time the two schools will be competing in Arlington since March of 2013.
