
TCU Eases Past North Carolina A&T to Open 2025-26 Season

FORT WORTH – Nine new faces took the floor, but No. 17 TCU looked the part of a seasoned crew in its 2025-26 opener, rolling past North Carolina A&T 82-43 on Thursday at Schollmaier Arena.
The Horned Frogs rattled off a 15-2 run over the first four minutes of the ballgame and never slowed down. TCU shot 53 percent from the field (26-49) over the final three frames and assisted on 24 of 32 field goals. Five Frogs scored in double figures in a game TCU led by double digits for more than 28 minutes.
TCU won its 25th straight home game – the third-longest home winning streak in college basketball – and claimed its 13thconsecutive season-opening victory dating back to 2012-13.
Marta Suarez led all scorers with 19 points. The 6-3 stretch forward shot 7-11 from the field. She
tallied 12 of her points in the second half, including six straight in the third to swell the Frogs' lead to 50-28 at the 4:54 mark in the frame.
Oliva Miles casually teased a triple-double in her TCU debut. Miles, the Preseason Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, finished with 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists across 30 minutes.
Miles ignited decisive scoring spell midway through the second period that put the game away for good. TCU managed just nine points over the ensuing 11 minutes following its hot start. Miles canned consecutive 3-pointers with TCU leading 24-14 with 4:32 to go before halftime. The pair of deep balls sparked a 15-5 run spanning three minutes that gave TCU its first 20-point advantage.
TCU, the national leader in 3-pointers last season (354), shot 1-11 from distance in the first quarter. The Frogs righted the ship from there, going 10-24 behind the arc the rest of the way. Guards Donovyn Hunter and Taylor Bigby each contributed a triple in the second period as TCU drilled 5-10 looks.
Hunter paired 17 points – one shy of her career high – with four assists and four steals. Hunter led all players in efficiency rating (+39).
The junior was responsible for 10 of TCU's 23 fourth quarter points. The Horned Frogs closed the game on an 8-0 run.
Bigby chipped in an efficient 10 points over 17 minutes off the bench.
Clara Silva rounded out the Horned Frogs' quintet of double-digit scorers, as she netted 11 points and matched Miles for the game high on the glass.
Silva formed a two-headed monster in the paint alongside fellow 6-7 center Kennedy Basham. The duo teamed up for nine blocks, with Basham sending back a career-high six shots. TCU collectively finished with 12, tied for its most in a game in the Mark Campbell era.
TCU held North Carolina A&T (0-2) to 27 percent shooting from the floor and just 14 made field goals. The Horned Frogs forced 21 turnovers in the win.
The Frogs finished with a 47-31 edge on the boards.
Four players finished with at least four assists. Maddie Scherr and Clara Bielefeld, one of two freshmen to enter for TCU, each dished out four dimes.
