Frogs Down the Mountaineers 6-1
Morgantown, WV – TCU downed the Mountaineers in their last regular season match of the season on Sunday, 6-1.
The Horned Frogs (12-8) dominated West Virginia (11-10) on all courts. TCU only dropped two sets on the afternoon in the 6-1 effort.
The doubles point has been an achilles heel for TCU this season, but the Frogs bounced back with wins on courts two and three. Mercedes Aristegui and Jade Otway earned their eighth duos win as a pair with a 6-4 victory over Momoko Nagato and Michaela Kucharova of West Virginia.
Tiphanie Lemaitre and Destinee Martins triumphed in a 6-2 fashion over Tatiana Lipatova and Maja Dodik to give the Frogs a 1-0 lead.
Singles play saw more of the same with five wins in favor of the Frogs.
Lemaitre dominated on court No. 1 besting Camilla Bossi while ony dropping one game in the whole match (6-4, 6-1). The senior caption Aristegui displayed similar dominance earning her 12th win of the season in singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 straight set win on the No. 2 court.
Up 3-0, Otway clinched the match for her team with a straight set victory (6-1, 6-3) on court No. 5 over Dodik giving her teram thir 12th victory of the year.
As the match played out two more TCU players came away with wins. Martins tallied a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Nagoto to extend TCU's lead to five. On court six. Narmont lead the entreaty of her match as she collected a 6-3, 6-4 win.
Following the Match Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker spoke on the Frogs' high energy.
"Team came out fired up and had a lot of fun on the court today. Usually, this trip can be exhausting and lead to sluggish starts on the last match of the weekend. But the energy and footwork were some of the best I've seen all year. And that just speaks to the type of character our team has. A very dominant performance all around. Quick turnaround this week. We only have one, maybe two days to touch up a few things, and then it's all-in for a big 12 title."
Up Next: TCU will prep for postseason play. The Frogs will travel to Lawrence, Kansas for the Big 12 Championships from April 20-23.
