TCU fights hard in 5-2 loss to No. 9 Texas A&M
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- TCU women's tennis (6-3) pushed No. 9 Texas A&M (12-1) but ultimately came up short in a 5-2 loss on Saturday afternoon at the Mitchell Tennis Center. The Horned Frogs' depth gave A&M trouble, but the Aggies swept the No. 1-3 singles positions to hand TCU its third loss of the season.
The Aggies got off to a quick start in doubles play, collecting break points on the top two courts to eventually win the doubles point with a pair of 6-2 wins. The No. 3 pairing of Addy Guevara and Isabel Pascual were battling, on serve, 3-4, when their match was halted.
Doubles Results
1. #2 Jayci Goldsmith/Tatiana Makarova (TAMU) def. Aleksa Cveticanin/Stevie Kennedy (TCU) 6-2
2. Renee McBryde/Mary Stoiana (TAMU) def. Jade Otway/Alisa Soloveva (TCU) 6-2
3. Gianna Pielet/Ellie Pittman (TAMU) vs. Addy Guevara/Isabel Pascual (TCU) 4-3, unfinished
Order of finish: 2, 1
TCU rebounded well, matching the Aggies energy with a good start to singles play. TCU won three first sets, very quickly, at No. 4-6, while the top three courts were fighting against ranked opponents. Aleksa Cveticanin came through with a win at No. 4 to tie the match, 1-1, and Isabel Pascual added to the mix by putting TCU in front, 2-1, with a win at No. 6. But the top of the Aggie lineup wouldn't allow any room for error and Texas A&M would go on to win at No. 1-3 in straight sets before ending the dual with a three-set win at No. 5.
Cveticanin recorded her fourth singles win of the dual season, improving her record to 4-2. This was her first win away from the purple courts this season. She has won all four matches in straight sets.
Pascual improved to 3-0 in singles play with her win today. The win comes after each of her last two matches were left unfinished while she was battling in a third set. Pascual is the only unbeaten Horned Frog in singles this season, with three wins and four unfinished matches.
