TCU welcomes Power 5 foes, Miami and Auburn
FORT WORTH – TCU volleyball (3-3) prepares for its final non-conference tournament of the season, when they will host Miami and Auburn for two matches inside The Rickel. The Frogs are hoping for a turn in fortune this weekend as they welcome a pair of Power 5 foes into Fort Worth.
Tournament Quick Hits
-Audrey Nalls leads all Big 12 freshman in kills (81), kills per set (3.86) points (88.5) and points per set (4.21). She is fifth overall in the conference in kills per set and sixth in points per set through six matches.
-Afedo Manyang has been a terror on the service line. She leads the Big 12 in aces (14) and aces per set (0.88).
-She is the only Big 12 player to record more than three aces in a three-set match, having done so twice – four vs. High Point and five vs. Colorado St.
-Manyang also leads the conference in blocks per set, averaging a Big 12 best 1.31.
-As a team, TCU leads the Big 12 in aces per set, averaging 1.9 in the 21 sets played this season.
-The Freshman Horned Frogs have provided plenty of evidence to back up their ranking as the fifth best recruiting class in the nation as TCU is led by freshmen in kills (Nalls), total attacks (Nalls), assists (Uçar), aces (Manyang) blocks (Manyang) and points (Nalls).
-Four Frogs have scored more than 50.0 points this season, three of which are freshman: Nalls (88.5), Manyang (52.5) Julia Adams (52.0). The lone veteran among them is sophomore Katie Clark, who is second on the team, accounting for 55.5 points through six matches.
-The Freshmen have accounted for 169 of TCU's 244 kills (69.3 percent) and 216.0 of the Horned Frogs 328 team points (65.9 percent).
-This weekend will be the second and third Power 5 test of the season for TCU, having fallen to Florida State in its pervious Power 5 match.
-For the first time in program history, TCU has sold out The Rickel in each of its first six home matches.
Scouting the Opponent: Miami
-The Hurricanes enter the weekend with a 2-1 record after posting a perfect 2-0 record last weekend in their only home tournament of the non-conference slate.
-Their lone loss came to their only Power 5 opponent, Missouri, in four sets.
-Miami is last in the ACC in blocks per set, averaging just one, it makes up for that with powerful attacking, the Canes are fourth in the conference with 13.50 kills per set through three matches.
-They have a phenomenal freshman of their own, as 2018 prepvolleyball.com National High School Player of the Year Savannah Vach lines up for Miami at setter. She leads the ACC with 11.63 assists per set.
-This will be the second-ever meeting between TCU and Miami, the Horned Frogs took the first matchup in 2014, by a score of 3-2.
Scouting the Opponent: Auburn
-The Tigers bring a 3-3 record into Fort Worth, having dropped matches to Tennessee State, New Mexico State and Florida Gulf Coast earlier this season. Their match against Miami on Saturday will be their first Power 5 test of the 2019 season.
-They are led offensively by senior outside hitter Enija Bidzane. The 5-9 outside is averaging a team-best 3.20 kills per set.
-Auburn libero Payton White is averaging 3.96 digs per set, including a 37-dig performance in the Tigers' five-set victory over Butler.
-This will be a rematch of the first home match in TCU Volleyball history, Auburn defeated TCU back in 1996. It is the only previous meeting between the two schools.
Clear Bag Policy
Only the following items will be permitted upon entrance into TCU athletics facilities:
-Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and not exceeding 14 inches by 14 inches.
-One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar).
-One unopened bottle of water.
-Small clutch bags with or without a handle or strap can be taken into the venue with one of the clear plastic bags.
-The Small clutch bags must be approximately the size of a hand.
-Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at stadium/arena gates.
-Backpacks, diaper bags and other similar bags will not be allowed.
