Horned Frogs hit .397 as a team, deliver 7 blocks in opening set to claim second win of 2019
Fort Worth -- TCU Volleyball (2-0, 0-0 Big 12) showed tremendous balance in its 3-0 sweep of Lipscomb (0-3, 0-0 ASun) Saturday afternoon at The Rickel inside the University Rec Center. Four Frogs finished with five-or-more kills and six different student-athletes contributed at least one block assist as TCU claimed its second win of the Cowtown Classic.
"I thought this was a great showing from our squad," head coach Jill Kramer said. "We came out really sharp. It was a quick turnaround for us and you always wonder, as a coach, where your team's energy level is going to be. But I thought we responded really well. We sided-out really well today, our setters spread out the ball pretty well. They felt they could set anybody at any time and be real comfortable doing that. Great team win."
TCU NOTABLES:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1 (TCU, 25-16): The Frogs were jumping all over the gym in the first set, stifling any and all Lipscomb attacks. Langs led the charge up the middle, getting a block assist on five of TCU's seven blocks. When the ball would get onto the TCU side of the net, Nalls and Manyang were all too happy to oblige, finishing with three kills each to pace the team. By the end of the set, the Horned Frogs had held Lipscomb to -.037 hitting, while turning in a stellar .360 hitting percentage themselves.
Set 2 (TCU, 25-19): It seemed Lipscomb had found their game in the second when a four-point Bisons rally tied the score at 11. But the Frogs adjusted, taking five of the next six points to reclaim the lead. The offense was clicking for TCU in the second set, six Frogs combined for 15 kills on .414 hitting, led by Adams, who finished the set with five kills. Manyang and Nalls combined for two blocks in the set, while Manyang teamed up with Adams for the third block of the set and 10th of the match for the Horned Frogs.
Set 3 (TCU, 25-19): TCU left no doubt in the third, jumping out to an 18-7 lead and holding on for a six-point set victory. Clark and Adams were all over the court, finishing with four kills each to help TCU collect its second sweep of 2019. Manyang found her serving groove in the third set, delivering back-to-back aces early on. She leads the team with six aces through six sets played thus far. The Frogs offense saved its most efficient set for last as the team finished with 15 kills on .417 hitting.
