TCU will wrap-up a five-match home stand by welcoming North Texas on Friday.
FORT WORTH, Texas – The five-match home stand by the TCU women's tennis team to open the 2019 season comes to an end on Friday as the Horned Frogs welcome North Texas to the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
Admission is free and fans in attendance can enjoy free pizza courtesy of Buffalo Bros., served in between doubles and singles action.
TCU Notables
TCU is 4-0 to start the season and finished the month of January undefeated for the first time under the helm of head coach Lee Taylor Walker. This is the best start to a season for the Frogs since 2004-05 when TCU went 6-0 to open play. The Frogs have only allowed the four opponents to score four points in the matches played.
Four players are 4-0 in singles matches to start 2019 led by sophomore Aleksa Cveticanin who is playing at the top two positions. Newcomers Mercedes Aristegui, Addy Guevara and Kate Paulus are also undefeated with Aristegui leading the Frogs with an 8-2 mark in the season. In doubles, Chloe Hule and Stevie Kennedy are leading TCU with a 3-1 record with two of the wins coming on court two.
Scouting the Mean Green
North Texas is 2-2 on the season with wins over Texas opponents Abilene Christian (7-0) and Lamar (6-1). Tamuna Kutubidze is leading the Mean Green in singles action with a 4-0 mark with all the wins coming at the No. 2 spot. Nidhi Surapaneni and Alexandra Heczey each have three wins in singles action with Heczey riding a two-match winning streak. In doubles, Maria Kononova and Minying Liang are a perfect 4-0 at the No. 1 position.
All-Time Series
Friday's match will be the 41st meeting all-time between TCU and North Texas with the Frogs holding the advantage in the all-time series with a 38-2 mark. The match will be the 35th time the teams have faced off in Fort Worth with TCU holding a 32-2 mark in matches played on the Bernard 'Tut' Bartzen Varsity Courts. North Texas' only wins in the series have come in 2012 and 2014 in Fort Worth. Under Walker, TCU is a perfect 4-0 against the Mean Green and this marks the eighth straight season with a match between the teams.
