MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Chauncey Collins scored in double-figures Wednesday, but TCU dropped a 79-54 decision to K-State inside Bramlage Coliseum.
Game Rewind
Collins led the Horned Frogs on the night, scoring 11 points. Malique Trent followed, tallying seven points and four steals. With his four steals, Trent, who coming into Wednesday ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 Conference in steals and was named the Conference Newcomer of the Week Monday, had three or more steals in a game for a 10th time this season. Vladimir Brodziansky just missed scoring in double-figures, totaling nine points on 4-of-8 from the field. The Slovakian native also grabbed six rebounds.
With the loss, TCU dropped to 11-19 overall and 2-15 in league play. K-State improved to 16-14 overall and 5-12 in conference action. For the game, the Frogs outscored the Wildcats in the paint, 30-26, while holding a 10-0 advantage in second-chance points. K-State held a slight advantage in rebounds overall, 34-30.
Barry Brown carried the Wildcats, scoring 15 points, while Justin Edwards chipped in with 12 points on 4-of-5 from the field.
TCU started to chip away at the K-State lead early in the second half as Trent and JD Miller scored early in the half to inch the Frogs closer with 11:32 left in the period, but TCU could never really make enough of a sizeable dent into the Wildcat lead the rest of the way.
The two teams opened the contest trading buckets as the Horned Frogs forced three-straight turnovers on defense and were able to build an early 4-0 lead in the game. K-State would battle back to take a 14-4 advantage on a 14-0 run, but Brodziansky would stall the Wildcat attack, knocking down a three ball with a little over 13 minutes left in the half.
With the scoreboard reading 19-10 in slight favor of K-State, Chris Washburn soared to the hole for a flush and TCU appeared to be in business as they climbed within 22-16 at the 10-minute mark. A three ball from the corner by Brandon Parrish with a little over 6 minutes remaining in the first half brought the score to 28-21 down the stretch, but K-State was able to take a 47-28 lead into intermission.
Quote of the Game
Trent Johnson
"I thought our guys did a good job. They got frustrated, which they should have. They kept fighting and did a decent job, which is predicated by what you see in the box score, 11 assists and 12 turnovers. We got dominated on the glass by Baylor but tonight we competed."
