STILLWATER, Okla. - Kyan Anderson scored 23 points in the second half Wednesday, but TCU dropped an 82-70 setback to Oklahoma State at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Horned Frogs, who moved to 17-13 overall and 4-13 in league play, tried to rally in the second half Wednesday after leading by five late in the first half, but couldn't complete the comeback.
For the game, TCU, who did most of their damage inside the paint, outscoring OSU, 38-24, shot a blistering 45 percent from the field and had three players score in double-figures. The Purple and White also out-rebounded the Cowboys to the tune of 36-30, marking the 19th time this season the Frogs have out-rebounded their opponent.
Anderson carried the Frogs, scoring a season-high 23 points on 6-of-14 from the field and a perfect 10-for-10 from the charity stripe in second half. Midway through the second stanza of action, the senior scored 13-straight for the Purple and White. Fellow senior Amric Fields was also in double-figures, scoring 14 points on 5-of-8 from the floor. With his 14 points, the Oklahoma City native went over a thousand for his career and became just the 33rd player in school history to reach the 1000-point club. Finally, Trey Zeigler added 10 points on 4-for-9 from the field, while also posting a team-best seven boards.
Oklahoma State (18-11; 8-9 Big 12) saw both Le'Bryan Nash and Anthony Hickey score 20 points apiece, respectively.
OSU opened the second half on a 5-0 run, but Fields would connect on another three-point play at the 18:11 mark to make it a 39-33 ballgame. With the bucket, Fields went over a thousand points for his career at TCU.
The Frogs continued to fight midway through, but the Cowboys were able to increase their lead before Anderson caught fire, scoring the next 13 points for TCU, which included shots from both behind the arc and inside the paint. Zeigler inched the Frogs closer with a little over 8 minutes remaining, scoring on a tip-in before sophomore Hudson Price tickled the twine from deep to make it a 69-54 ballgame with 7:25 left to go in the contest.
TCU would pull within 69-56 midway through and then watch as Washburn rattled home a tough jumper to make it a 72-59 ballgame with a little over 5 minutes remaining in the contest.
The Frogs would cut it to 12 at 72-60, but would come up short in the end, evening the season-series at 1-1 with the Cowboys.
Zeigler got the Frogs going early in the ballgame, scoring the first four points of the contest, including a tip-in at the 16:57 mark, which gave TCU a 4-3 lead. A few plays later, Chris Washburn connected on a turnaround hook shot inside the paint to give the Frogs a 7-5 advantage.
By the time, Fields scored a tough jumper just inside the paint, TCU had jumped on top, 11-9, with a little over 10 minutes remaining. The senior then banked in a three on the next possession to increase the Purple and White advantage before Chauncey Collins got into the act from deep, making it a 17-12 ballgame with 9:19 showing.
With a little over 5 minutes remaining in the half, Zeigler soared to the rack to throw down a thunderous dunk to increase the TCU lead to 25-20. Oklahoma State came back to take a 28-25 lead, but Fields would have nothing of it, scoring an old fashioned three-point play to tie it at 28-28 with 3:24 remaining in the first half.
The Cowboys closed the half on a 6-2 run to take a 34-30 lead into the break.
