FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 21 TCU women's tennis team returned home and posted its fourth shut out of the season with a 4-0 win over UAB on Monday night at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
Coming off a tough three-week road trip, the Horned Frogs (11-6) easily handled the Blazers (6-7) to get back on the winning track and stay undefeated at home with a 4-0 record.
"It was nice to wrap up a tough road trip on our home courts," head coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "We are excited to be home the remaining four weeks of the season and this was a solid way to start off the home stand. UAB played great doubles and were in position to beat us, but our girls kept their composure and were able to finish it well. That really helped us loosen up and play some solid singles all the way down the line.
"Sofiko (Kadzhaya) was playing some really good tennis today and it was unfortunate she couldn't finish, but Simona (Parajova), Alexis (Pereria) and Seda (Arantekin) finished off their opponents well. This was great preparation for Friday night."
Parajova and Kadzhaya were able to grab the first doubles win of the match and won their eighth straight match with a 6-2 victory over Rachel Daniell and Amy Lowther. The duo now have 11 wins on the season and remain undefeated at No. 3 doubles with an 8-0 record.
TCU mixed up the doubles' pairings on the other two courts, with Seda Arantekin and Alexis Pereira pairing up for the first time in the spring to win the final doubles match for the Frogs. The duo had to fight off a tough battle from Pardis Kianoush and Elaine Simon, but the duo were victorious in the end with a 6-4 defeat.
The Frogs took the momentum into singles action and dominated the first sets on all six courts. No. 41 Parajova took the first singles win of the match at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 take down of Daniell for the senior's team-leading 19th win of the season and 11th at No. 2 singles.
Pereira stepped up next and notched her 16th win of the season with the downing of Catherine Ragon at No. 6 singles. Arantekin clinched the match for TCU on court five by demolishing Lowther, 6-1, 6-1 for her 16th win of the season, to give the Frogs the victory for the match.
TCU will continue action at home and will return to Big 12 Conference play with a match against Oklahoma State on March 27 at 5:30 p.m., before wrapping up the weekend against Oklahoma on March 29 at 1 p.m.
