The Horned Frogs, who led for almost the entire game Wednesday, shot 44.4 percent from the field, while out-rebounding the Red Raiders, 37-36. When it was all said and done, TCU did it on both ends of the court, holding Texas Tech to a dismal 8.3 percent from behind the arc, which included an 0-for-5 showing from deep in the first half.
For the game, TCU's relentless defense limited Tech to only 17-for-50 from the floor, while recording a 17-8 advantage in points off turnovers. The Frogs also posted a 36-28 advantage inside the paint, while outscoring Tech off the bench, 23-12.
With the win, TCU improved to 17-11 overall and 4-11 in league play, while the Red Raiders fell to 12-17 on the season and 2-14 in conference action.
It was a total team effort for the Purple and White Wednesday as several individuals filled up the box score. Kenrich Williams tallied his second career double-double, scoring 10 points, while grabbing a career-high 16 rebounds, which included eight on the offensive end. Senior Kyan Anderson was also in double-figures with a game-high 17 points on 5-of-14 from the field. He also dished out six assists in his 113th career start, which moved him into No. 4 all-time in program history for career starts. Not to be outdone, fellow seniors Trey Zeigler and Amric Fields added 15 and 10 points apiece, respectively.
Texas Tech saw Zach Smith and Keenan Evans both score 10 points in the loss.
Zeigler opened the second half, scoring a tough layup on the opening possession, which pushed the TCU lead to 29-20, but Texas Tech would not back down, scoring four-straight to pull within five nearly 2 minutes into the second half. The senior would end the mini 4-0 run with 18:19 showing, scoring an uncontested layup. Anderson then got into the act, tickling the twine from deep to light the scoreboard up and give the Purple and White a 34-25 lead.
With 14:08 showing on the clock, Anderson took the rock the length of the court and threaded the needle to Brandon Parrish whom promptly scored a running layup to give TCU a 38-27 advantage. The senior then found a wide-open Fields for a triple and the Frogs were in business, now up 41-27 at the 13-minute mark of the second half.
Texas Tech would continue to battle though, pulling within 10 at 45-35, but Anderson would have nothing of it, scoring an old fashioned three-point play at about the 10-minute mark to stymie the Red Raider offensive attack. The Frogs would go on to score seven out of the next nine points to take a 52-37 lead with a little over 8 minutes remaining in the game.
With the scoreboard 64-51 in favor of TCU, Chris Washburn scored on a tip-in at the 1:50 mark to make it a 66-51 ballgame and the Frogs never looked back, sweeping the season series Wednesday night.
Williams got the Frogs going right out of the gate, securing a rebound and laying it in on the opening possession. A few plays later, Washburn nailed a jumper and the Purple and White were off and running, now up 4-0 to begin the game.
By the time Anderson found a cutting Williams for an alley-oop at the15:29 mark, TCU had opened the game up 8-2. Texas Tech responded with a mini 6-0 run to tie the ballgame at 8-8 until Zeigler stole the rock and went coast-to-coast for the dunk with a little over 12 minutes remaining in the period.
TCU jumped back on top at 17-10 midway through, but the Red Raiders cut it to four before Zeigler ripped the nets with a jumper to make it a 19-13 ballgame with a little over 6 minutes remaining in the opening frame of play.
The two teams would go back and forth until Fields rattled home a three with a minute left to go in the half to make it a 24-19 contest. During the stretch, the senior did it on both ends, blocking two would-be shot attempts. A late three-point play by Devonta Abron helped TCU take a 27-20 lead into the break.
