SEATTLE, Wash. - TCU had two players score in double-figures Tuesday night, but couldn't overcome Washington's hot shooting, falling to the Huskies inside Alaska Airlines Arena, 92-67.
The Rundown
Washington (6-2) started out of the gates on fire Tuesday night, shooting a blistering 61.8 percent from the field in the opening frame, including 75 percent from beyond the arc. The first half lead was too much for the Horned Frogs to make up in the second half despite controlling points in the paint for the game, 38-32.
The Frogs, who fell to 4-4 overall with the loss, were carried by Malique Trent's 13-point outing. Trent went 6-of-9 from the field and also tallied four assists. The sophomore has now led TCU in assists in three-straight games.
Fellow sophomore Vladimir Brodziansky followed with 10 points on 4-of-7 from the floor, while freshman JD Miller carried the Purple and White on the glass with a career-high 12 boards.
Simply put, the Huskies' Andrew Andrews was unstoppable throughout the game, scoring a game-high 32 points, which included a 6-for-6 showing from deep. Three other Washington players scored in double-figures, including Noah Dickerson who totaled 11 points and eight rebounds.
Trent tried to jump start the Frogs early in the second half, driving to the hole and connecting with contact. A few plays later, Brodziansky got in the act, corralling a rebound and rattling the rim for a dunk to inch TCU closer.
TCU would continue to battle as Trent would drive by his defender and score with 14:27 showing on the clock. He then watched as Miller scored on a tip-in, but it was too little too late as the Horned Frogs dropped to 4-4 on the season.
The two teams opened the game going back and forth the first couple of trips as both Brodziansky and Shepherd scored during the early stages of the game. The Huskies would not back down though, jumping out to an 18-6 lead midway through. Trent would have nothing of it, knocking down a jumper to pull TCU within 10 at the 11:59 mark.
A three ball by Chauncey Collins at the 10-minute mark inched the Frogs closer at 22-11. A few plays later, Trent would drive by a would-be defender and find the bottom of the net to make the scoreboard read 26-15 with 7:30 showing in the half.
Washington proceeded to go on a 15-4 run the next couple of minutes to increase its lead, but Devonta Abron scored a tough layup inside the paint with 2:47 showing on the clock to put a halt to the run. Abron's bucket just stalled the Huskie attack as Washington took a 57-23 lead into the break.
