FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU used a strong second half Friday night to put the finishing touches on its time at Wilkerson-Greines, dropping Prairie View A&M, 73-55.
The Rundown
The Horned Frogs, who will debut in Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena on Sunday, Dec. 20, moved to 5-4 overall, while the Panthers dropped to 0-8 on the year.
TCU pushed a three-point halftime lead to 16 with a little over 10 minutes remaining in the game and never looked back, winning comfortably. On the night, Vladimir Broadziansky scored a team-high 16 points on 7-of-7 from the floor. Senior Devonta Abron was also in double-figures, while totaling only his second career double-double with a 12-point, 10 board outing.
For the game, TCU shot 47.8 percent from the field, including 57.7 percent in the second half alone. The Frogs did most of their damage off the bench, outscoring the Panthers, 30-12. The Purple and White also forced Prairie View into 21 turnovers, while out-rebounding PVAMU to the tune of 38-34.
The Frogs opened the second half scoring seven out of the first nine points of the half as Brandon Parrish connected on five of the seven, including a three from the left side of the court to give the Frogs a 33-25 lead with 17 minutes showing on the scoreboard.
TCU would take a 37-28 lead following a tip-in from Abron and the Frogs begun to separate as Brodziansky scored a few plays later to make it an 11-point advantage for TCU.
By the time Chauncey Collins exploded to the hole and connected with contact off a pass from Malique Trent, the Purple and White were off and running, now up 47-33 off an 8-2 run midway through. The sophomore continued to go to work a few plays later, draining a deep three from the top of the key to increase the TCU advantage.
The Frogs would increase their lead to 65-41 down the stretch off a three-point play by Abron and never look back, winning comfortably to improve to 5-4 on the season.
TCU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the contest thanks in large part to its defense. In all, Prairie View didn't score from the field until 17:51 showed on the clock in the opening frame. The Frogs kept on the attack a few seconds later as Brodziansky threw one down at the 17-minute mark to take a 6-2 lead.
The Panthers took a 9-8 advantage in the contest after a mini 7-2 run, but Karviar Shepherd would score the next three to regain the lead for the Purple and White midway through. Brodziansky would then drill a three ball with 8:28 left to increase the TCU lead to 14-11.
Prairie View then proceeded to go on an 8-2 run to take a 19-16 advantage before JD Miller rattled the rim to pull within one at 19-18 with a little over 4 minutes remaining in the period. Trent then got into the act, scoring an old fashioned three-point play with 3:35 left in the half, which was part of an 8-1 run for TCU.
The two teams would go back and forth the rest of the half, but the Frogs would take a 26-23 lead into intermission.
