
TCU Edged Late By No. 22 SMU

FORT WORTH, Texas - In a back and forth contest, TCU led by three with 3 minutes left to go in the game Wednesday night, but ended up falling to No. 22 SMU at Wilkerson-Greines, 75-70.
The Rundown
The Horned Frogs jump out to a 22-10 lead in the first half off a 15-1 run, but the contest, which was tight all night and featured eight ties and 10 lead changes, was decided in the final minute. Down the stretch, SMU was able to make enough plays to escape with the win despite being tied with the Frogs at 70-70 with 2:43 showing on the clock.
TCU, who is now 3-3 on the season, was carried by sophomore Vladimir Brodziansky who totaled 18 points on 7-of-11 from the floor. Fellow sophomore Malique Trent followed with 13 points and a team and career-high five assists. Junior Chauncey Collins rounded out the Horned Frog notables on the offensive end, tallying 12 points. Not to be outdone, Karviar Shepherd just missed a double-double, scoring eight points, while corralling a season and game-high 11 boards.
SMU (5-0) was led by senior Nic Moore's 26 points. Markus Kennedy was also in double-figures with 15 points on 7-of-9 from the field.
TCU would open the second stanza of action just like the first as Brodziansky would score three points for the Purple and White, but this time from downtown to make it a 42-42 ballgame with a little over 17 minutes remaining in the contest. The sophomore added a jumper a few moments later and the Frogs were in business.
SMU would take a 49-46 lead, but Shepherd stalled the Mustang attack, adding a put-back to make it a 49-48 ballgame at about the 13-minute mark. Collins then tickled the twine from deep midway through and TCU regained the lead.
The Mustangs would go on to hit four out of the next five, but Trent would have nothing of it as the sophomore scored nine-straight, including two triples from the same spot to make it a 62-62 ballgame with 8:05 showing on the clock.
Devonta Abron then get into the act, scoring on a jumper, which gave the Frogs a 64-63 lead. He then watched as Shepherd knocked down a shot and the Frogs had increased their advantage to three.
The two teams would go back and forth the next couple of minutes with the Frogs clinging to a 70-67 lead late in the contest, but that was the last time TCU led as SMU was able to close it out.
The two teams would open the game going back and forth as Brodziansky would score on an old fashioned three-point play. The sophomore would continue to go to work moments later, scoring down low, which gave TCU an early 5-4 lead.
The Purple and White would take a 13-10 lead following the first media timeout and then watch as Collins buried a triple at the 13:43 mark. Moments later, Michael Williams would connect on a three of his own and the Frogs were in business, now up 19-10. By the time Collins ripped the nets again from deep, TCU was in the midst of a 15-1 run to take a 22-10 lead midway through.
SMU would storm back to take a 32-29 lead on a 16-2 run before JD Miller found the bottom of the net on a reverse to stymie the Mustang attack and make it a 32-31 ballgame.
The two teams would continue to battle down the stretch and SMU would take a 40-37 lead into intermission.
