With the win, the Horned Frogs improved to 10-0 for the first time in school history and need only three more wins to tie Oklahoma State for the 10th-best start in Big 12 Conference history.
Thanks in large part to its relentless defense and controlling of the glass, TCU went on a 16-3 run midway through the second half and never looked back, giving McNeese its third loss of the year.
For the game, TCU out-rebounded the Cowboys, 49-32. The Frogs also posted 11 blocks in the contest, while holding a 34-22 advantage in points in the paint.
Individually, sophomore Kenrich Williams led the way, scoring a season and career-high 13 points on 3-for-6 from the floor. Karviar Shepherd also had a solid night, scoring six points, while corralling a game-high 12 rebounds. Seniors Trey Zeigler and Amric Fields rounded out TCU's top-performers, scoring eight points apiece, respectively.
McNeese State had three players score in double-figures with Shaun Johnson tallying a team-high 12 points in the loss. Desharick Guidry, who came into the game averaging 19.3 points per game, totaled only 11 points on 2-for-12 from the field.
The Frogs started out the second half hot as Kyan Anderson made it a 35-22 ballgame with 17:49 showing on the clock. A few plays later, Hudson Price drove right by his defender and found the bottom of the net on a tough layup to push the Purple and White advantage to 37-24.
McNeese State would continue to battle, cutting it to 41-33, but Fields promptly ended the Cowboy run, soaring high to tip in the rock at the 13-minute mark. A few plays later, freshman Chauncey Collins tickled the twine from deep, which made the score 47-35 with under 10 minutes to go in the contest. The freshman continued to feel it from deep at the 8:37 mark, burying another trey ball to push the Frog lead to 52-37.
Back-to-back throw downs by Chris Washburn let any doubt of a McNeese State comeback vanish as the Frogs controlled the game the rest of the way to move to 10-0 on the season.
Some beautiful ball movement gave the Frogs an early 4-0 lead as Shepherd found Zeigler on a cut for a backdoor layup. The Cowboys would nail a triple on the other end to pull closer, but Anderson dropped a jumper with a little over 15 minutes remaining in the opening frame to make it 6-3 early on.
With TCU up 12-10 midway through the first half, Fields exploded to the hole with a finger role at the 10-minute mark to increase the Frog advantage. A few plays later, Anderson found Williams on the baseline who proceeded to power home a tough layup in traffic with 9:11 showing on the clock, which made the score 16-13 in favor of the Frogs.
The two teams would go back and forth the next couple of trips, but Shepherd would burry a jumper with the shot clock running down to give TCU a 20-18 advantage with 5:32 remaining in the half. The Frogs would push it to a 25-20 lead a little bit later until Fields went to work on both ends of the court. The senior swatted away a shot on defense and then ran the court to receive a pass from Anderson for an easy bucket with a little over 2 minutes remaining in the half.
The Frogs were able to take a 29-20 lead into intermission off a 9-2 run to close the half.
TCU will next be in action Saturday, Dec. 20 against UTSA at 7:00 p.m. CT.
