FORT WORTH - TCU's women's volleyball team returned to its winning ways Saturday afternoon, scoring a 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-11) triumph over Prairie View A&M inside the TCU University Rec Center.
The Horned Frogs improved to 10-2 on the year and picked up its sixth win in straight-set fashion. Prairie View A&M dropped to 2-12.
TCU controlled play the entire match, including scoring the final six points of the first set. The Panthers got within six at 19-13, but two Sloane Sunstrum kills and a block to go along with a Mattie Burleson kill and block led to a 25-13 set one win and 1-0 lead on the scoreboard.
Yvonne Igodan led the Frogs offensively in the set with four kills on six total attacks. Burleson had three kills, while Sunstrum added in three kills to go along with five digs.
The second set featured more TCU dominance as a wide variety of players got into the mix offensively. Burleson picked up three more kills and blocks and Sutton Sunstrum had three kills on three attacks.
Senior Megan Munce had two aces to move within one of Nirelle Hampton for the most all-time at TCU as the Frogs' 13-6 advantage in kills led to a 25-12 set two win and 2-0 lead and position for the sweep.
The Frogs once again made things look easy in the third set, racing out to a 10-3 lead before PVAMU's first timeout. Sutton Sunstrum added two more kills in the set, while Stephanie Holland picked up three of her own.
Freshman Alexia Heist moved to setter to give Munce the set off and assisted on five of TCU's 12 kills. Sutton Sunstrum also had four digs in the set as TCU rolled to a 25-11 set three triumph and 3-0 overall win.
TCU trailed only three times in the entire match and held a distinct advantage in kills (39-20), hitting percentage (.348-(-.062)) and blocks (13.0-2.0). Sutton Sunstrum had a career-best six kills and Burleson continued her strong play at the net, tallying a career-high 10 blocks.
The Frogs close the tournament portion of their schedule this evening against Lehigh. First serve is set for 7 p.m., from the TCU University Rec Center.
