
Duncan Earns Winter Southern Closed Singles Title

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Freshman Kayla Duncan claimed the Winter Southern Closed Singles Championship Tuesday at the Knoxville Racquet Club in Knoxville, Tenn.
Listed as the top-seeded player out of a 64-player field, Duncan won four matches en route to the singles championship, taking down a pair of seeded opponents. Duncan defeated the third-seeded Ariel Caldwell in the finals, 6-3, 6-4,
As a newcomer this fall, Duncan exploded onto the collegiate scene with a 10-1 record in singles play, serving as one of three Frogs to earn a double-digit win total for the semester. The Winston Salem, N.C., native finished her fall with the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Consolation Singles crown, topping players from Baylor, LSU, Texas Tech and UTA.
TCU will kickoff the spring schedule on the road at Virginia on Jan. 24. The Frogs will open the home season against Auburn on Feb. 8.
