I guess it's necessary for me to introduce myself. I'm Tasha, number double uno on the TCU women's basketball team. I'm going on my third year now and I've grown very fond of Fort Worth. I'm a communication studies major with a minor in social work; I know, weird combo but hey, it works!
My family is originally from a little town in Mississippi called Tchula. It's about an hour and a half from Jackson. I'm an Army brat, but was born and mostly raised in El Paso, Texas. Looking at my picture and hearing me speak, people would never guess. So, I'm guessing your next question would be do I speak Spanish, and the answer is yes; really, I didn't have a choice.
My dad died when I was eight. This tragic event was so hard for me because I'm the baby in the family and was daddy's little girl. He really loved basketball and played a huge role in why I jumped into this game. So, out of respect on my left arm, you'll find a tattoo that's a tribute to him.
My mother still resides in El Paso and honestly, she's my biggest fan. Really, she might be our team's biggest fan because every time I look up in the stands she's there. She follows us everywhere. Last year, she took a mini vacation to Hawaii. I wouldn't be surprised if she meets us in Cancun for Thanksgiving.
The transition of leaving home was a bit difficult for me because my mother never missed a single game. But when I arrived at TCU, she called me before every game and told me the scouting report for our upcoming opponent. And after the game, she called me and let me know her thoughts of the outcome. Obviously my mother and I have a very close relationship. We talk at least two to three times a day, everyday. And if she skips a day, I let her have it!
I have a sister that lives in Albuquerque, N.M. She has two kids named Lashana and Chris. Those kids are my heart. This summer, I went home to pick them up and drove them back to Fort Worth to spend a week with me. I spoiled them rotten.
Along with my sister, I also have two brothers. One lives in Germany and he also has a son that was born on the same day as my father. My other brother lives in Memphis. He used to beat me up when I was little on the court. I thank him for every single beating!
Besides hoopin', I'm a huge college football fan! Have you seen what our football team has been doing? Mad props guys!! In my downtime, I enjoy sleeping, playing PS2, or my PSP, and sleeping a little more. I love all music and I'm a huge fan of Bob Marley and Eminem.
I know this is "Outside the Lines," but basketball is all I know so I have to throw something in here about the team. We have a nice core coming back and a handful of talented, capable newcomers. We're looking forward to the season as well as a new conference. Hope to see many fans in the stands this year. Until then, holla at me!!
