Led all players in scoring and rebounding in wins over No. 18 Baylor and Cincinnati
FORT WORTH – For the fourth straight week and league-leading seventh instance in 2025-26, the Big 12 Player of the Week belongs to TCU.
Marta Suarez received the recognition for the week of Feb. 23-March 1 after guiding TCU to its second consecutive outright Big 12 championship. Suarez averaged 26.5 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals per game across the Horned Frogs' victories over Cincinnati and No. 18 Baylor. Suarez led all players in points and rebounds in both wins.
Suarez is now a two-time award recipient, having garnered the accolade on Nov. 24 amidst the Horned Frogs' run of 14 straight victories to begin the season.
The Spaniard scored a career-high 32 points in the Frogs' 83-70 road victory at Cincinnati to begin the week. She netted 26 of her points in the second half and 15 in the third quarter alone. The scoring barrage out of the intermission helped TCU erase a six-point halftime deficit and clinch a share of the league title and No. 1 seed in the Big 12 Tournament, which begins on Wednesday in Kansas City, Missouri.
Playing her final regular season home game on Sunday, Suarez posted a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double against the Bears in a wire-to-wire 65-53 rivalry win. She knocked down 5-6 attempts from distance. The double-double was her team-leading eighth of the season.
The 6-3 stretch forward connected at a 51 percent clip the field and shot 64 percent behind the arc for the week.
Suarez's efforts saw No. 10 TCU (27-4, 15-3 Big 12) become the first program in league history to win back-to-back Big 12 regular season championships within three seasons of finishing in last place.
The Horned Frogs are riding a six-game winning streak into the conference tournament. Suarez has been at the crux of TCU's late-season surge. In that stretch, Suarez has averaged a team-high 22.3 points per game. She has finished as TCU's leading scorer in four of its last five victories.
For the year. Suarez is averaging career highs in points per game (17.1), field goal percentage (.480) and 3-point field goal percentage (.390) along with 7.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per outing.
TCU and Suarez begin play at the Big 12 Tournament with a quarterfinal tilt at 1:30 p.m. on Friday inside the T-Mobile Center. The Horned Frogs face No. 8 seed Utah, No. 9 seed BYU or No. 16 seed Houston in a game that will air on ESPNU.
