FORT WORTH – Junior Xavier Edmonds recorded a career-high 26 points to help TCU erase an 18-point deficit and earn an 84-82 win over Kansas State Saturday afternoon in Schollmaier Arena.
Edmonds led the rebounding charge with 10 boards for his fifth-straight double-double, the most by a TCU player since Kenrich Williams in 2017. The Horned Frogs (14-9, 4-6) held a 40-25 advantage on the glass, which proved important on a day TCU shot 61.1 percent (22-of-36) from the free throw line and 30.8 percent from three.
Sporting jerseys that said "Texas Christian" across the front in recognition of the 1986 Southwest Conference team, TCU found itself down 18 points, 40-22, with 7:08 to play. The Wildcats (10-13, 1-9) led the entire half behind eight 3-pointers, four of which came from Marcus Johnson who finished 5-of-6 off the bench for 15 points.
TCU ended the half on an 18-4 run to trail by just four at halftime, 46-42. Helping close the gap was Brock Harding, who made all of his season-high 3-pointers in the first half.
The Horned Frogs trailed by as many as 11 in the second half and by 10, 78-68, with 5:26 to play. The KSU lead was five points, 82-77, with 1:29 remaining. From that moment, the Wildcats turned the ball over three times, and the Horned Frogs went 5-of-6 from the free throw line and scored the final seven points of the game. Edmonds scored six of those points and finished 9-of-10 from the field.
David Punch, who with TCU leading 83-82 and 6.7 seconds to play, forced a turnover on PJ Haggerty. Punch finished with 14 points and six rebounds. He was joined in double digits by Micah Robinson with 16 points and Jayden Pierre with 10 points.
Haggerty led all players with 30 points on 14-of-24 shooting.
