Robinson, Toolson lead TCU with 17 points
FORT WORTH – TCU scored the final 12 points in a 62-55 win over No. 5 Iowa State on Tuesday at Schollmaier Arena.
The Horned Frogs (15-9, 5-6) trailed 55-50 with 2:38 to play following a layup by Nate Heise, which served as the final points for the Cyclones (21-3, 8-3). TCU then made its last four field goal attempts and forced ISU into three turnovers for a total of four in the final 4:19 of the game.
Jayden Pierre flipped the game with five points in 20 seconds. With TCU trailing 55-54, the senior guard made a tough hook shot floater in the paint and then made a 3-pointer to give the Frogs a 57-55 lead with 48 seconds remaining.
Tanner Toolson finished the game off with making 3-of-4 free throw attempts, part of a 17-point effort for the junior guard. He had 11 in the second half where the Frogs outscored the Cyclones 33-25.
The second half was sparked by the first half finish when the Frogs trailed 28-19 before ending the half on a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to one point, 30-29.
Micah Robinson had several key plays, including two dunks in the last 2:14 of the game. He finished with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting.
The rebounding effort went the way of the Frogs, 36-31, behind a season-high nine rebounds for Toolson.
It was TCU's highest-ranked win since beating No. 2 Houston on Jan. 13, 2024.
The Horned Frogs will return to action on Saturday at Oklahoma State. Tip is at 11 a.m. and will air on ESPN2.
